Sonic Megamix Still In DevelopmentSonic Megamix Sigue Estando En Desarrollo

In light of speculation that the popular Rom Hack Sonic Megamix might be cancelled due to recent events, the head of Team Megamix, Stealth, has opened a new thread for discussion on the game, and made a statement in regards to its progress.

I am posting today to say that, despite speculation that I have seen trying to kick up to the contrary, Megamix has not been and will not be cancelled.

Progress has been made slowly since the last public “release”, and even still over the last week. No member has presently expressed any desire to abandon the project, all meaning that we still have an in-tact team that is willing to push forward.

Sonic Megamix is very much a team project- all of Team Megamix have made significant contributions to its development. We are all proud of what we have done with it, and we, more than anyone, deserve to see it completed and enjoyed by its fans.

As for concern I had seen arise before, my leadership is absolutely nothing new, nor was it the first time it came up. I have had as strong of an influence on this project since the beginning of “Team Megamix” as I do today, and my intent has always been that the finished product be both enjoyable and as near to professional quality as possible. The rest of the team will work with me, and I with them, to make sure that happens.

I should note that this is a statement, not an opening to debate. Given the volatile nature of the situation, I feel it in the best interest of the project and our team members to have made it as soon as possible. The project, in general, is obviously open for public discussion by nature, but please consider this specific matter closed.

Further updates will come at our discretion. Excitement is understandable and appreciated, but please bear with us while we continue our work. Sonic Megamix will be released once it’s complete, and that will take however long it takes, dependent on the work left and our other responsibilities. We can’t say when that is, but we can say that we’ll make it worth the wait.

Additionally, a new video was posted showing off the completely revamped City Outskirts Zone, along with a preview of things to come.

More information about the game, as well as Team Megamix, can be found at Team Megamix’s official website.

Yes! I’m so happy to see that the team is still working away at this. I was beginning to worry, and suspected that maybe some of the members were getting impatient with how long and tedious it was to make progress, perhaps to the point of ambivalence. I am glad I was wrong and merely being overanxious.

The music sounds like a cross between Hydrocity and Stardust Speedway (JP)

    • Reply

Sounds a lot like the past version of Stardust Speedway…not to mention the level looks like a combination of the beta Casino Night Zone and Collision Chaos Zone present…

Have you not seen the video of the guy getting through Splash Hill Act 1 with only the homing attack? And many people complained about it before they played it anyway.

I kind of hope they are able to change the shield sprites to make look more like Sonic Generations, but they might not do so or that fact that I’m not sure if there’s a sprite size limitation.
Anyway, I hope this version will be great- the previous version seemed to be incomplete.

I need this in my life.
It need to be the end video of the Sonic Hack Showcase as an amazing way to stop the current series with a bang!
But this is basically an entire new game. Very very well done.

There it is, the game with bottomless pits, homing attack and the unbalanced mix of speed and platforming. The true Sonic 4 Genesis.

I believe this “homing attack” debate has a simple answer. Sonic 4 had entirely new physics and level design built around the homing attack, but here the homing attack is built around the original feel of the game, and it doesn’t look so long-ranged giving enemies a chance to attack. Plus I don’t see any stretches of motionless badniks put there just for using the Homing Attack. Having said that, this hack’s looking really good now, background may be a tad cluttered but there’s plenty to look at and the new badniks look decent

I would make a whole text about it, but i’ll skip to the tl;dr part: Homing Attack is meant for 3D, any attempt of putting this move on 2D Gameplay is a miserable fail.

The game has really changed for the better! Original level layouts (again). And now original soundtrack! And to RiddleTC, if you don’t want the homing attack you play as Mighty.

    will this be for mac

    • Reply

All you need is something that can play Sega CD games, which includes the actual console.

So yes, Mac players can get in on Megamix.

Hey It looks pretty good actually

I realize that giving suggestions for Megamix isn’t exactly the Golden Rule to keep yourself from getting banned, but I can’t help but feel like the game might be a bit more fulfilling if we had to “earn” the characters’ new powers (light dash, homing attack, peel out, double-jump, etc.) like in Generations.

Also, IMPORTANT QUESTION: any chance that Megamix will support Retro Channel?

  • Reply

Well, RC’s developer Cinossu is on the team, so it’s not entirely far-fetched!

I only learned today that he was, by the way. Despite having read (or thought I did) the Team Megamix article at least twice recently. sigh
