Sonic CD is PSN’s Top Dowloaded Game for December 2011

Sony’s official U.S. PlayStation blog revealed that Sonic CD boomed past the competition and was the top purchased digital game on the PlayStation Store for the last month of 2011. Given the cult classic status it has amongst Sonic fans, seeing it bust out the gate strong is always a pleasant sight, though its feeling of familiarity with small enhancements for this HD age to give it a breath of fresh air certainly left us smiling.

The other story is that it no doubt shows success for Christian “The Taxman” Whitehead’s Retro Engine, utilized to power the game and all its modifications, and more importantly sends a strong message to Sega that demand is out there and there is benefit to using the engine in not only new Sonic games, but various new titles in general given the engine’s versatility. Congratulations, Taxman!

If you’ve not gone and purchased Sonic CD or spread the word to friends who enjoy a quirky platformer, what are you waiting for? We’ll even GIVE you a copy of Sonic CD on Steam if you have a nice tale on how you got someone to play Sonic CD!

I hope that eventually, all the classic games are redone in this way

Now its time for them to release sonic 3 and knuckles on all platforms.

For Sonic 3 and Knuckles to be remade like this would be almost a dream come true. Only almost, because I can see two ways that Sega could screw it up. One: Taking forever to release it on Steam again. Two: Disabling Debug Mode or making it extremely hard to unlock.

Makes sense, considering PS3 doesn’t have any other good games.

Makes me wish thatSonic 3 and Sonic & Knuckles would get the same treatment this game got. Sonic 3 & Knuckles and Sonic 3D Blast are EASILY the two buggiest games I have on my Steam account right now and in almost no way at all resemble the ones I have on my Genesis. Next to the laggy controls, one thing that REALLY bugs me is that I have a CRT (Trinitron G520) and I can’t switch to the game’s original resolutions, I can only do 640 X 480 and higher which has a tendency to expose artifacts..

Sonic CD 2011 is a brilliant re-release and deserves it’s success.
If Sonic 4 Episode 2 is a success and sells well then perhaps SEGA will give Sonic 3&K the the same treatment as Sonic CD as warm up to Sonic 4 Episode 3.

No, let’s NOT make Episode 2 a success! The sales success of CD gives a clear indication of what retro fans want, if we neglect the pile of fucking arse-gravy that is the Sonic 4 saga they might finally get the message!
