Japan Gets Sonic Generations 20th Anniversary Set

While Europeans and Australians were able to get the collector’s edition of Sonic Generations earlier this month, those in the US only got the standard game with the Casino Night pinball stage as a pre-order bonus. You’d think Japan wouldn’t get this kind of treatment either, seeing how there aren’t a large amount of Sonic fans there. Surprisingly this isn’t the case, Japanese site ebten.jp has listed a 20th Anniversary Set with pictures and information on what it includes. This special edition is completely different from Europe’s CE, so you might want to see what it includes:

The main attraction of the set is a crystal cube with Sonic and a life monitor engraved into it (pictured above) which is 6 x 6 x 10 cm. They used a laser to make this thing, and as you may know everything is cooler with lasers. Other extras include a cloth with both Modern and Classic Sonic as well as Sonic the Sketchhog printed on it and the History of the 1st Stage soundtrack, which is different depending on whether you get the PS3/360 or 3DS version. While this doesn’t have as much content as the European CE, it still has some neat stuff collectors might want. The track list of the the soundtracks, more pictures and links to where you can buy this can be found after the jump.

I don’t understand where that logic “Sonic isn’t popular in Japan” came from, is there any proof of that? remember Sonic X which is the longest Sonic series and by far the best was made in Japan, and season 3 “season 2 in Japan” was made in 2005, also I see a lot of Sonic fans in DA and other sites like Tojyo and Aoi!

…Sonic the Hedgehog has never been popular in Japan. That is not something someone made up, but the truth. Sonic was huge in America and Europe, but what was SEGA’s most popular console in Japan? That’s right, the Sega Saturn. Guess how many main Sonic titles were on that bad boy? That’s right.

Sonic X doesn’t prove anything. In fact, you could argue that it goes against the idea that Sonic is popular in Japan. Series 2 was never aired in Japan. I’m sure they would have aired it if Sonic was big. That’s not to say Sonic has never sold in Japan. It just never sold well. It was never the cultural phenomenon over there like it was in the west. Sega and Nintendo were neck and neck in the west, but the Super Nintendo dominated over in Japan. If Sonic was big over there, the race would have been much closer.

If Sonic is very popular in JP,then why give them the special edition and not to us that we love Sonic? Is ilogical to give something and know that it won’t please it while there are other people that apreciate it…Why SEGA,why give UK the Collector’s and to JP the Special when they don’t love Sonic as we do?Why give us just the game and the pinball and not a special gift? Not fair and that’s no good.

SEGA never really got the hint that the Japanese don’t care about Sonic. Which is kinda sad because they always try to pander to them, but to no avail.
