Unofficial Poll: Sonic Generations Console/Portable Stages

With Sonic Boom less than a week away and Sega releasing trickles of details about Sonic Generations‘ 3DS iteration, including that StreetPass will be foolishly used for additional unlockable content, you can imagine that news has been rather slow to generate.

Although now there’s rumors that Sonic Generations is also headed to Sony’s upcoming PlayStation Vita (the PSP2) device, those are largely hearsay and it’s before E3, so take that with a truckload of salt.

So, while sitting with the lovely and rabid people of our IRC channel in #retro (drop on by, we won’t bite… hard,) a discussion came up about Generations 3DS stages. It’s likely the modern stages will cause a rift in both versions of the games, so the console version may include levels from Sonic 2006 (prepare the painkillers), Sonic Unleashed and Sonic Colo(u)rs, while the 3DS version will tote levels from Sonic Rush, Rush Adventure, and… Sonic Colo(u)rs.

This isn’t limited to that era too. It’s a possibility that Sonic Adventure, Sonic Adventure 2, and Sonic Heroes entries will be replaced with counterparts from Sonic Advance, Sonic Advance 2 and Sonic Advance 3 on the 3DS.

So here’s where you guys come in. What stages would you like to see from those games? Unfortunately, both games cannot get Starlight Carnival or Sweet Mountain, so it’s decision time. Sound off in the comments below!

Sunset Park from Sonic Triple Trouble. Do it. Do it thrice. Imagine Modern Sonic on the train from Act 3. It’s so perfect it hurts.

Call me stupid, but why wont Sweet Mountain or Starlight Carnival be in the game? Just wondering. .

    • Reply

I’m saying that both versions can’t have the same stage from the same game, or at least that’s as much as Takashi Iizuka implied when talking to Nintendo Power. So 360/PS3 and 3DS both can’t have Sweet Mountain. One would need to have Sweet Mountain, the other Planet Wisp, for example.
      Sorry for the confusion there.

      • Reply

Ah, okay. Thanks for clearing that one up for me, haha.

It doesn’t really matter to me. As long as the classic physics are close-enough and I get to play either Chemical Plant or Stardust Speedway again, I will be happy.

However, I’m not sure if the console ones will feature anything from Colors, a Nintendo-exclusive game that is still bringing in some cash for them. I could be wrong, but it seems like something to consider.

What I’m gonna say is that I’d love to see Planet Wisp on the 360/PS3 version and Starlight Carnival on the 3DS. Maybe Egg Base from Sonic Advance, Music Plant from Sonic Advance 2 and Cyber Track from Sonic Advance 3.

    Sonic Advance 1 – Egg Rocket/Cosmic Angel
Sonic Advance 2 – Techno Base
Sonic Advance 3 – Chaos Angel

    Probably wont happen.

I would love to play a version of Kingdom Valley on a game that wasn’t shit though. Lovely level.

Here’s an idea: A Sonic ’06 level pack where all of ’06’s levels are revisited in Classic and Unleashed styles of gameplay. The work on those levels was awesome but the gameplay killed them. If Generations plays well I’d love to see a ’06 level pack come as downloadable content for Generations.

While I could ramble on with a long list, I’ll just say that I hope they choose more of the unique themed stages outside of the obligatory Hill/Underwater/etc. themes. Some that come to mind are Stardust Speedway (seizurific), Music Plant, Sweet Mountain, and so on.

I think I’ve mentioned it before, but it would be really interesting to see them take a jab at making full levels out of zones that weren’t traditional zones in the first place, such as Spinball’s Toxic Caves and Shuffle’s Blizzard Coast. At least the latter seems like it could be very interesting in place of a standard beach setting, though chances of such happening are no doubt slim. One last random note, but here’s hoping Water Palace shows up on one of the versions so we can get some official Sonic Rush remixes.

Planet wisp act 1 and most definately RADICAL HIGHWAY!!! I DON’T CARE WHAT VERSION I WANT RADICAL HIGHWAY!!!

I wonder what that means for the guy who’s redoing “Escape From The City”, the song used for City Escape. I’m guessing you’re saying this for the 3DS version, but then again City Escape has been confirmed for neither game.

      • Reply

… Correct me if I’m wrong, but I don’t think I mentioned city escape there…

        • Reply

There was a previous blog post on the Sonic Retro homepage of it, that’s where I was getting my info about the inclusion of City Escape.

PC = Either actual PCs, or an abbreviation of Project Café, which is Nintendo’s current work-in-progress successor to the Wii – rumoured to be HD, more powerful than both 360 and PS3 and insane control scheme.

My picks? Windy Valley or Emerald Coast from Adventure, City Escape, Green Forest, or Metal Harbor from Adventure 2, I suppose I’ll throw in another vote for Sunset Park Act 3 as well. Also, Chemical Plant for consoles. And Under Ground Zone. I can’t be the only one who wants to hear an updated version of that theme, now can I? Erm…and…derp, I’ve never played Heroes or ’06, so no votes from me there. Why not whatever act of Apotos Day they used for the Sonic Unleashed demo?

Having picked up Sonic 06(yeah, I actually like, no, love, this game)yesterday after months of not playing I’m now hoping to see a few stages from it re-appear in Generations. I want to be able to play through Wave Ocean(maybe Flame Core), and Kingdom Valley with a FAST Sonic, and I think it’d be nifty to see if and how the levels are altered since(as far as I know)only Sonic will be playable.

  • Reply

well for the console version, I’d like to see stardust speedway, lava reef, icecap, death egg, speed highway, final rush, twinkle park, frog forest, grand metropolis and final fortress. Not too fussed about the modern era. But I feel these levels would benefit the most from the HD consoles due to how stunning they looked back in the day

    ~Genesis~
    – Hidden Palace Zone: Now I know that this doesn’t really count as a zone, seeing as it’s one act long and there solely from story purposes, but I love the whole “confrontation with the Guardian” mood. The only letdown is that Knuckles was pathetically easy. Not [just] because he had some bad A.I. programming, but because his moves were limited to the ones that you can do when playing as him. If he could pull off some “HOLYCRAPIDIDNOTSEETHATCOMING” moves, then I’d write him off as one of the best bosses of the game, and Sonic Generations has a big enough chance to do just that.
    – Sunset Park Zone: This game gear level felt like an unsual, yet almost instantaneous, classic. The whole place felt all un-Sonic-y in a sense that running to the right wouldn’t get you anywhere fast, except to instant death. Now, while this level did tone down the running, platforming and exploration had heavy emphasis, which reminded me that this wasn’t just a game showing off a speedy little rodent. No, it was about a speedy little rodent that could jump. And, as you probably expected, Act 3’s music was flat out awesome. There. I said it.
    – Hill Top Zone: This level has got to be the most underrated level in Sonic 2. Possibly in the whole genesis era. Heck, I like this one better than Chemical Plant zone, which I find to be too heavily praised (much like how I find Sonic 2 just to be Sonic 1 with the addition of a [playable] stalker). Now, before I drive this tangent any further, there’s just something that I find to be enthralling about the lush Blue Hills in the Mountain Tops. While its musical theme was freakin’ weird (in a good way), the stage itself was unique all in its own way. And it had lava. I’d love to see HD lava in a Sonic game.
    – Stardust Speedway (Boss): Okay, maybe asking for a boss throwback is pushing it, but darnit I loved this boss. Heck I loved ALL of the bosses in Sonic CD. They weren’t just “How many times can you hit Eggy?” bosses, they were “can you even find out HOW to hit Eggy?” bosses. Except for this one. This one was all about staying alive. But not because Sonic had to wait for Eggman to kill himself (like for many bosses in Sonic 3K), but because Sonic had to pass a trial of only one surviving. To this day, I still feel the adrenaline rush from this boss. In a way that no other boss (in the Genesis Era) has given me.

(I do not have any Sonic 1 levels on here because they already did that for Sonic Colors)

    ~Dreamcast~
    – City Escape: Possibly the MOST memorable Sonic Adventure 2 stage out there (thanks to the demo in the Sonic Adventure 1 casing), City Escape is downright awesome. A lot of us take this stage fro granted, you’ve got so many cars (parked/moving), so many buildings, so many branching, yet inaccessible streets [for practical reasons], and an awesome feel of outrunning the cops in the most ridiculously cool way possible.
    – Sky Deck: Everyone remembers Sky Deck. Who doesn’t? As glitchy as this stage may or may not have been in its latter sections, it was still fun to play. I just love the feeling of taking down a carrier at high altitudes, from the inside out. You know, until I found out that all I had to do was push a button under Eggman’s seat to do it. So the feeling died. But that’s not to say that the feeling was never there. Either way, I’d love to return to those amazing heights in stunning HD.
    – Metal Harbor: This is one of those levels that makes you realize the true purpose of the “Score” part of the Score-Time-Rings HUD. Now, while you play this level, you’ll notice that doing it in THE FASTEST TIME POSSIBLE, will rank you a C at best. Rather, this level encourages you to do what no other Adventure level had. EXPLORE. Now, this stage is pretty linear and pretty much devoid of alternate routes already, but when you look in the right spots you’ll find some zones to amp up the score. And then there’s the biggest kick-in-the-nuts moment ever. The missile launch section has an extended climbing route. The upper-section really tested your speed and mettle as you had to ring-dash, homing attack, and run as fast as you could to the second handle bar. I wonder how classic Sonic will fair…

    ~Modern~
    – Kingdom Valley: This stage was just beautifully epic, and possibly my favorite in the whole game. Granted, White Acropolis had an unorthodox appeal to it (stealth in a SONIC GAME?), earning it some favoritism, but it just pales in comparison to Kingdom Valley. Crisis City also had its high points as well, and I wouldn’t mind seeing that one again either. On the subject though, Kingdom Valley was so mythical and felt so… RIGHT. It was basically the level that made Sonic ’06 have ANY reason for picking the game back up. You know, besides its unbelievably stellar soundtrack. The point is, the level has so much more potential to build upon from its roots and Generations has a chance to do it justice.
    – Pirate Storm: Sonic and Secret Ring’s main and possibly only REAL issue was the auto-run system. But that didn’t keep me from absolutely adoring this level. You see, this level did what so many others these days [and in the classics too] were too humble to do: it destroyed all sense of subtlety. Instead of taking the “Hey look at that, there are some cannons firing in the distance, that’s a nice touch” path, they took a “F**K CANNONS IN THE DISTANCE, I’M RIDING CANNONBALLS!” path. And that brought back that never-a-dull-moment sense from the Adventure days. Heck, even more so than those. Can I have Sonic doing tricks from cannonball to cannonball in a midair free fall? Only generations can bring me that.
    – Various Sonic Rivals (2) levels: This game was just epic for me. It was basically the original Sonic 4 (with tag-team in the sequel (like Sonic 2)) that focused on recurring nemeses (like Sonic 3) while fighting off Eggman (like all classic games). Heck it even had side-scrolling gameplay. And the drafting system was a nice touch. Maybe this is an excuse for multiplayer…
    – Skyscraper Scamper Daytime: Okay, so this one is basically City escape on steroids, but how awesome would it be to see a 2D rendition? Complete with all of the steep drops and building hopping that Rooftop Runway could only dream of. Get rid of the speed boosts and then you’d have pure, 100% momentum that propels you past the screen. Unlike Chemical Plant Zone and most modern levels today. Since this is already a Unleashed/Colors style, I guess that it would be quite redundant to do this as Modern Sonic, unless it has a whole new perspective.

I probably have more ideas that I haven’t thought of yet, but I would definitely want to see these ones make a return.

Very extensive reasoning! I might check it out later, but for the moment I’m in a state of tl;dr

Sonic 2006 sweet 😀 that game had some amazing levels like Crisis City and Wave Ocean, maybe Aquatic Base or Flame Core 😀

also the PSP2 is gonna be called PSP Vita? i been wondering what it’s called, it’s nice to know they’re including it, maybe the PC port will be true after all “either Personal Computer or Project Cafe, either way is awesome”!

I might get Sonic Generations for the 3DS, so I have a couple zones from Sonic Advance 3 I might want to see. I want to see Cyber Track Zone and Chaos Angel Zone!

Honestly, while Sonic 06 was a dreadful game, it could have been saved. As much as I want to forget about the final *cough* product, including a fully remastered level wouldn’t be a terrible idea. Though at this point, I’m pretty sure Sega has entirely abandoned Sonic 06.

Well, assuming there is a rift between the Modern stages catering to the console / handheld audience, I would say…

Sonic Adventure – Windy Valley or Red Mountain, and Sky Deck or Hot Shelter. Boss: Egg Viper FTW and maybe some form of Chaos… or Gamma for the fan service.
Sonic Adventure 2 – *throws hands up in air* City Escape is a fan-favorite for who knows why, but any of the ARK stages are far better. Though if you want a change of pace, Metal Harbor would make an interesting case for classic gameplay. Boss: The Shadow Race re-imagined.
Sonic Heroes – I guess either the final level or the haunted one. Boss: Egg Albatross
Shadow the Hedgehog – LOL I dunno
    Sonic 06 – Crisis City. Boss: Egg-Cerberus or Egg-Genesis.
Sonic Unleashed – Empire City or Eggmanland (well, shortened, obviously, and without the day/night gimmick). Boss: Egg Lancer.
Sonic Colors – Haven’t played; should be included.
    And for the handhelds…
Sonic Advance – Neo Green Hill. Boss: Mecha Knuckles
Sonic Advance 2 – Musical Plant (not a cliche level type at all). Boss: XX’s Boss Attack run.
Sonic Battle – LOL I dunno
Sonic Advance 3 – either Cyber Track or Chaos Angel. Boss: one of the final bosses.
Sonic Rush – Altitude Limit or Dead Line. Boss: Blaze and Point W
Sonic Rush Adventure – Haunted Ship or Plant Kingdom. Boss: Whisker & Johnny or Ghost Titan.
Sonic Colors – Haven’t played; should be included.
I think that about sums it up for me.

Scrap Brain Zone (S1), Ice Cap Zone (S3), Death Egg Zone (S&K), Sky Chase Zone (S2), Egg Carrier (SA), Crazy Gadget (SA2), Starlight Carnival (SC) for the consoles! Bridge Zone (S1), Green Hills Zone (S2), Sunset Hill Park (STT), Cosmic Angel Zone (SA1), Music Plant Zone (SA2), Chaos Angel Zone (SA3), Flying Battery Zone (S&K), Metropolis Zone (S2), Asteroid Coaster (Wii SC) for the 3DS! Either way, I’m getting both versions. Hey, any word on if SEGA’s going to be doing the whole awesome pre-order gift again this time around. (they better. >_< o)

And i bet that sonic generations will have some kind of tipic stages :
Casino(sonic 3 version), ice(sonic 3 version) ,mountains(sonic adventure)(i bet red ones) , some kind of water stage(sonic 3) , final stage in eggman’s hq(mixture of all) , we might see lava stage(Marble zone or lava reef) , and some kind stage in eggman’s ship(Sonic heroes) , jungle or some kind of forest(sonic sdventure 2) , temple , ruins , piramids and etc(lost world from sa), stage in city(speed highways from sa) . My wants are in brackets . And i want pc version 😀

Ah what the hell, I guess I can throw my 2 cents in.
I guess we can assume they’ll be roughly 7-8 stages in the game right? 4 classic, 4 modern? Green Hill, Casino Night and Launch base are set in stone anyway so I’ll try and work around that.
I choose to remain optimistic however the game turns out but I guess if I was in charge of the project (if it was a fan-game or whatever) the stages I would want to see are:
    -Console Version-
    Green Hill
    Oil Ocean
    Carnival Night
    Speed Highway
    City Escape
    Frog Forest
    Kingdom Valley
    Rooftop Run
Sonic 3D: Flickies Island Special Stages
    Doomsday Zone Final Boss

    -3DS Version-
    Green Hill
    Casino Night
    Launch Base
    Death Egg
    Angel Island
    Music Plant
    Huge Crisis
    Starlight Carnival
    Sonic Heroes Special Stages
(the final boss from Sonic Rush, I’m not even sure it has a name…)

There are tons of stages we’d all like to see, chances are the more iconic ones like Mushroom Hill, Angel Island and Seaside Hill would probably make the cut but eh, there’s no such thing as a perfect game. As for DLC, it’ll most likely be additional acts rather than new stages, but eh, who can complain. =P

If there really was to be an NGP version of Sonci Generations though I imagine it’ll just be a toned down port of the PS3 version (if it really is as powerful as the rumours suggest.) I’d worry how it’ll handle the framerate when modern sonic is boosting though…

    Console
Sonic 2006 – That Underwater Base. Nice level, that.
Sonic Unleashed – Cool Edge (I think that’s what it’s called.)
    Sonic Colo(u)rs – Uhh… What’s the name of that Aquarium/Japanese one?
Sonic Adventure – Never played it.
Sonic Adventure 2 – Never played it.
Sonic Heroes – Final Fortress or Frog Forest!
    3DS
    Sonic Rush – Water Palace
Sonic Rush Adventure – Coral Cave
Sonic Colo(u)rs – Planet Wisp (I didn’t like the levels in this game. D:)
Sonic Advance – Egg Rocket!!! 😀 Love to hear a HD version of that song!
Sonic Advance 2 – Music Plant or Techno Base. I’d love to see Techno Base, but I’d like to see what they did with Music Plant.
Sonic Advance 3 – Twinkle Snow. That aurora would look very pleasant in HD.

Here’s the names of the two you missed:
      Sonic ’06: Aquatic Base
      Sonic Colors: Aquarium Park

For the console, from Sonic (2006): Kingdom Valley, Crisis City, and Aquatic Lab. All great concepts, with beautiful visuals, just shat all over on that game. The speed sections shouldn’t be too hard to translate onto the Hedgehog Engine.

  • Reply

Sonic Unleashed: Spagonia, Chun-nan and maybe Adabat if Angel Island hasn’t been used. If not, then Apotos. That level is too iconic for that particular game. I can sorta picture Classic Sonic in those stages, since a portion of them are in 2D already (fast-paced, mind you).

  • Reply

City Escape, Death Egg (Sonic 3 & Knuckles version), Flying Battery, Carnival Night (Because I figured out the barrel) Radical Highway, Final Rush, and Egg Fleet.

  • Reply

Sonic Colors: Tropical Resort, Sweet Mountain and Starlight Carnival. All three come off as most memorable to me. The rest were okay, but not as fun on my part. I do hope there are no extremely short stages that are only there to show off a gimmick, like in Colors.

    • Reply

I’m pretty sure that there could be a mission system taking part in a part of a level similar to what you don’t want to happen.

I’ve been with this franchise since the beginning, and I really don’t have too many nostalgic memories with the Adventure games and up. After considerable time thinking (like, 2 minutes), I would be amused to see Lost World from Sonic Adventure remade in both 2D, and Unleashed style. That would be flippin fantastic. But, aside from that, and that night time (then day in Act 2) city level from Sonic Adventure (I don’t feel like looking up the level name, just brain farted on it), I could careless for modern levels honestly.

  • Reply

I would have to say from Sonic 06 I’d like to see Kingdom Valley and Crisis City again, both damn good levels in terms of design not gameplay unfortunately.

  • Reply

I’m only getting the console version, so I want to see Stardust Speedway, City Escape, Starlight Carnival, Twinkle Park and Cool Edge (day) or Windmill Isle (day).
Those are some of my favorite stages from throughout the eras of the franchise.

      I can’t believe I forgot a Heroes stage.
From Heroes I would like to see either Grand Metropolis or Power Plant.
I saw a screenshot of a Heroes special stage in a NintendoPower magazine article about the game, so at least that made it in. Best version of the special stage in my opinion.

All interesting picks for levels. However my cast would be, by era:
    Genesis:
Green Hill, Spring Yard, Chemical Plant, Marble Garden
    Dreamcast (Including Heroes):
Windy Valley, City Escape or Metal Harbor, Casino Park, Egg Fleet
    Modern:
Crisis City, Sand Oasis, Chun-nan, Tropical Resort (God I loved that level)
I greatly enjoyed all these levels, minus Crisis City’s speed section, the rest was okay.

I think it would be interesting to see a modern sonic perspective on Flying Battery Zone…plus, the sped up remixed music when you boost would be pretty amazing IMO.

For consoles : chemical plant and hydrocity. Can’t be sure about the others.
For handhelds : tekno base (king of seizures), chaos angel.
There are many more stages i’d like to see, but this are my first picks.

Personally, i dont think levels from handheld games will be in the 3DS version, but i could be completely wrong. Anyway,
    Sonic Adventure: Windy Valley,
SA2: Metal Harbor, Sonic Heroes: Hang Castle/Mystic Mansion, Sonic 06 has to be Crisis City (while i acknowledge the fact that most hated the game, i actually really liked it, the loading screens were the only thing that bugged me, and i know most will hate me for that lol), Sonic Colors: Aqaurium Park (or Starlight Carnival with the bright neon colors), Sonic Advance: Snow level ( forget what its called), Sonic Advance 2: Music Park, Sonic advance 3: Route 99 (or Sunset Hill would kinda be cool on 3ds), and u gotta have Rush and Rush Adventure levels, love to see
Huge Crisis from SR and Pirate Island from SRA. Of course, most of these more than likely wont be in either version, I’m just going crazy waiting for more info. And why does the Sonic Boom event have to be all the way in LA? Why cant it be in Ohio!?

There is one or two Id like to see include in the classic section of the console version: the Bridge zone from the 8 bit Sonic 1 and the Scrambled egg from Sonic 2 8 bit.

Also, if the 3ds version uses the levels from the handheld versions, why are Launch base and Casino night on it? I can understand the Green hill zone due to the Game Gear!

    • Reply

It’s just that people seem to be assuming that the Generations 3DS version is using exclusively handheld levels (at least, as a counterpart to the console version’s console-inspired levels).
Other than that I got nothing.

  • Reply

Why the hell would Generations bring in levels from Unleashed and onward? They’d just be the same levels, unless they have different layouts which sounds pointless anyway. The whole point of this game is experiencing old levels in a new way. And since the storybook games are Wii exclusives (And already play somewhat like the Hedgehog Engine) they definitely won’t appear.

1 from each Genesis title (Except CD, Sega hates CD), 2 from each Adventure title, 1 from Heroes, 2 from Sonic 06, 1 from Sonic 4, and finally an original level, probably Eggman’s fortress or something.

    My expected list for console:

    Green Hill (Duh)
    Chemical Plant
    Ice Cap
    Sandopolis

    Emerald Coast
    Windy Valley or Twinkle Park
    City Escape
    Metal Harbor

    Grand Metropolis
    Crisis City
    Lava Core or Kingdom Valley
    Mad Gear
    Final level

I love that picture with classic Sonic with green eyes and modern Sonic with black eyes. How many people got noticed? Hahaha.

I’d like: chemical plant, hydrocity, lava reef, lost world, green forest, mystic mansion, kingdom valley, adabat and sweet mountain.

I never played Sonic’s portable games, so I cannot say anything.

Boy, I hope Casino Night does not finally appear in Generations, I’m fed up with casinos

Okay, I’m gonna go on a bit of a ramble with these, so please feel free to tl;dr the longer descriptions/reasons if you feel.

    Classic Era:
Scrap Brain Zone: Honestly, all 6 zones from Sonic one are iconic, but with all the votes for Death Egg, we can’t forget about Eggman’s ORIGINAl evil lair, now can we?
Mystic Cave Zone: Seriously! Wouldn’t this zone look fucking cool in HD with all those iridescent lights? Also, emphasis on tricky jumps is a plus for challenge.
Chemical Plant: This zone tickles everyone’s nostalgia bone a little bit and helps get the ball…err…hedgehog rolling with some good classic toxic sludge drowning action!
Mushroom Hill Zone: Not your typical first zone, Mushroom Hill could provide some nice visuals and gimmicks for Modern Sonic to play with, not to mention it’s just a classic.
Hydrocity Zone: This Zone, along with Tidal Tempest, literally defined water stages in Sonic for all eternity, so this needs to be there to remind us all where hydrophobia and autoscroll terror. really came from.
Stardust Speedway Zone: ..and this is why I didn’t vote for Starlight Zone. An elegant blend of city and Eggman thematics with some sexy (Japanese) music and lots of path mazes, this one’s for the game.
Metallic Madness Zone: Maybe it’s a little much to wish for TWO Eggman Bases from the same era, but I really love that shrink ray gimmick in act 2 and have been desperately waiting for it’s return.
Bridge Zone: This zone could have LOTS of fun in the Modern Sonic design with lots of overlapping bridges everywhere. It would also just look and sound amazing.
Underground Zone: I wont kid myself and put only easy or fun stages here. I want to see how Modern Sonic would handle that evil Antlion after 7 years of just holding right on the D-Pad.
Sunset Park: I was shocked to see how many people wanted this particular zone back O_O;; Really, that’s awesome the GG games are getting some fan love. I agree with this pick; it’s unusual theme and climatic boss battle are worth it alone.
Crystal Egg Zone: An unusual choice. It’s surprisingly bouncy music, linear layout, and beautiful crystalline structure fail at conveying a traditional Eggman’s base feel, but it makes perfect sense to mislead the Sonics into the death chamber….(no pun intended, I swear!!)
Botanic Base: Not originally Sonic’s stage, persay, but a jungle themed level from the classic era would be pretty awesome. Plus, we need to see that awesome music get some love~

    Dreamcast Era:
Sky Deck: I have to say, even though this stage is kind of nervewracking for me, I agree with some people that it should go in the game; it’s the best way to represent the Egg Carrier for both Classic and Modern Sonic alike.
Lost World: This stage was pretty amazing back in the day…well, just imagine it now! I think this stage would give both Sonics a run for their rings, literally and figuratively speaking.
City Escape: Sooo many people want this level, and it’s not hard to see why. It clearly is one of the most iconic stages in Adventure 2, so by all means, toss it in there!
Hang Castle: Oh my god, this stage is just pure fun! The quirky take on the haunted mansion theme and the switches make this the perfect stage to twist up some of the mid-game blues.
Secret Base Zone: Like Sonic 1, all of Sonic Advance’s stages are so unique and wonderful it’s so hard just to pick one or two of them. That being said, this one deserves some props.
Egg Rocket Zone: I was gonna pick Casino Paradise here, but I caved and picked this one instead, only because it’s more note worthy and gives us a proper Eggman challenge from the Dreamcast Era.
Music Plant Zone: Easily one of Sonic Advance 2’s best moments; all the fans of the music are rewarded with a music themed stage…complete with it’s own charming soundtrack! I’m waiting for my french horn pipes, Sega.
Cyber Track Zone: Oh god, this zone. This would give Classic Sonic a good taste of what he’s in for later on, and he’ll need it! Also, the music rocks.
Chaos Angel Zone: PIPE ORGAN<333…ahem. Seriously, this zone is probably the most epic of them all in the GBA games, so why would you skimp out on it?

Other than the stages that have already been confirmed- Green Hill, Launch Base- these are my picks:
    STH(1991):
Marble Zone, Act 1 (Starting abouve ground and making my way into the lava-filled underground caves sounds amazing. Also I want to see that seal flop into the lava and swim away completely unharmed in HD.)
    STH2(SG):
No Emerald Hill, since we’ve already got Green Hill, so…
•Oil Ocean Zone ( It’s just one of those levels that you feel like was meant to be in 1080 pixel CG)
Also, I think it would be cool if you could play in the scrapped levels of this game, since there are so many of them, maybe buy them as DLC. This would include Dust Hill Zone (which would have been the first desert level in Sonic history), Wood Zone (a deciduous forest with tree houses and bridges all around), Rock Zone and Winter Zone (from what I know, neither of these were ever worked on within the Genesis, but they’re still noted as being scrapped), Genocide Citry/Cyber City

First, I’d like to say that switching the eye colors is the best idea ever 😀

Second, I reeeealy want Kindom Valley from Sonic 06, imagine that level in high speed!!!

No, I do believe that’s correct.

Well, definitively Sunset Park Zone. Just imagine the beautiful red sky with endless industrial rigs in the background 😀 . I’s also love to see Quartz Quadrant, Botanic Base or Isolated Island. Those stages (or games) just have this special atmosphere that the games are lacking since

Tsc… Looks like Starlight Zone (Sonic 1 GEN) and Mystic Mansion (Heroes) don’t get any love these days along with Techno Tower, Marina Madness and Amazing Arena (All from Chaotix)…

I’d really like to see Emerald Coast from Sonic Adventure. It’s so iconic as Sonic’s first real foray into 3D. I wouldn’t mind the pinball poker and pinball slot machine mini-games from Casinopolis either. While we’re at it, I think that Sky Chase wouldn’t be bad either. The retro Sonic 2 gameplay for Classic Sonic and the SA1 gameplay type for Modern Sonic. Even though SA2 had some real good levels, none of them really stick out to me a whole lot, and neither does the Sonic Heroes levels either. As for the portables, the only levels that stuck out to me were Music Plant from Advance 2 and seemingly everyone’s favorite Sunset Hill from Advance 3.

    • Reply

      Forgot the Genesis\MegaDrive Levels:

      Spring Yard Zone
      Casino Night Zone
Hidden Palace Zone (might not count since it wasn’t a official level in Sonic 2)
      Angel Island Zone
      Ice Cap Zone
      Flying Battery Zone
Death Egg Zone (Sonic and Knuckles)

      • Reply

Cut in production =/= not official IMO – it’s an official level in the sense that it was designed, and constructed to some extent, just never made it.

        • Reply

It still would be a nice nostalgic nod though, but yeah, it is very unlikely that Sonic Team would go to that kind of length for a unfinished level.

  • Reply

    Starlight Zone
    Scrap Brain Zone
    Chemical Plant Zone
    Aquatic Ruin Zone
    Hill Top Zone
    Metropolis Zone
Sky Chase Zone (as a bonus level ala Adventure 1)
Stardust Speedway (for an epic fight with Metal Sonic)
    Angel Island Zone
    Hydro City Zone
    Ice Cap Zone
    Lava Reef Zone
Hidden Sanctuary Zone (for epic Knuckles fight)
    Sky Sanctuary Zone
    Death Egg Zone
    Doomsday Zone
    Emerald Coast
    Twinkle Park
    Speed Highway
    Lost World
    Final Egg
    Windy Valley
    Red Mountain
    Sky Deck

    Metal Harbor
    Crazy Gadget
    Final Rush
    Grand Metropolis/Power Plant
    Final Fortress
    Crisis City
    Kingdom Valley
    Cool Edge DAYTIME

These stages are only from the games I’ve played, so I’m sure the rest of you have awesome suggestions; but this would make my favorite Sonic game if these stages appear, even as DLC if that’s what it takes.

How about a full on 3D awesome remake of the GUN Truck chase from Sonic Adventure ?! Then play it in 2D with classic Sonic!

      • Reply

That’d be cool too, but I’d lol to see how they make the truck keep up with 3D Sonic running at the sonic-boom speed he runs at !

  • Reply

I’ll take it another way. I will focus on one single game, which in my case is Colo(u)rs.
Because we may be sure game won’t feature Wisps, we may throw most Wispy level, Planet Wisp (pun not intended) outta the window. Tropical Resort is a super-standard stage and Asteroid Coaster, while certainly interesting from gameplay perspective in classic mode, was unfortunately perceived by some as ugly (although if “mashup final level” theory is true…).
This leaves us (unless Sega’s gone mad) with Sweet Mountain, Starnight Carnival and Aquarium Park. I really hope for that last one in console versions, because despite having less iconic look it had more diverse gameplay after throwing Wisps out of equation. In case of portable version, well, Sweet Mountain would be better for me, as it had something more to it than light bridges.

    • Reply

It would be kinda cool to see the wisps make a return, even though we first saw them last year. Though they are part of Sonic’s history so we will have to wait and see!

      • Reply

Not to annoy you dude, but Wisps were quite fundamental to Colo(u)rs and integrating them genuine way for one single level would be not good design. That said, we recently got that skateboard monitor, so instant-use-Wisps are possible.

Genocide City, Wood Zone, and Dust Hill. Ya know, for old time sake?

How about this little idea of cross prrrrrrrromotion?

Have the console version lead into Sonic 4, to promote awareness for the second episode.

Have the 3DS version’s final level lead up to the “new Sonic game” for the 3DS that’s coming.

    A meta event!

As for stages from 06, being actually PLAYABLE? I wouldn’t know how to act!

Wonder if Game Gear levels make the cut for the 3DS version, would that mean the long awaited return of a certain weasel? Hmmmm? HMMMM?!

Marble Zone- the exploration factor in that stage was through the roof, not to mention the penalties in the stage for going too fast!!! I’d love to see Modern Sonic try to do the stage with his exclusive moves. and I’d love to see Angel Island Zone and Mushroom Valley Zone from Sonic the Hedgehog 3 parts 1 and 2. (or Mushroom Hill and Sonic 3 and Knuckles for those of you who perceive them as separate games.)

I’d also like to see them try to pull off some Sonic 4 episode 1 zones without those damn speed boosters and homing attack chains.

Sonic unleashed: Holoska (Cool Edge): An icy location, most likely based on Alaska (due to the name).
    • Chun-Nan (Dragon Road): A level inspired by China. It includes a run along what looks like the Great Wall[9].
    • Shamar (Arid Sands): A stage designed to resemble a Middle Eastern desert landscape, probably Petra, Jordan.
    • Empire City[9] (Skyscraper Scamper): A location based on New York City where Sonic is shown to run between skyscrapers.[13] This stage is only available on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions.
    • Adabat (Jungle Joyride): A level inspired by Angkor and Southeastern Asia themes. It contains many flowing rivers and high cliffs.
    • Eggmanland (Crimson Carnival): Eggman’s empire, based on an island near the fifth continent. The stage is combination of an amusement park and a factory. It resembles a fusion of Circus Park, Lava Shelter, Hot Shelter, and Final Egg.

I would really like to see some Sonic Advance levels on the 3DS. Music plant is a must. I would also like to see a multiplayer mode. Splitscreen. With modern and classic Sonic. (Azure lake! Chrome Gadget!) The console version needs to have Ice cap and Marble garden zone. Metal harbor would be nice too. And maybe a Seaside hill at sunset? Like the one in the 2-P mode. And last but not least: Death Egg Zone from S3&K. That’s all i’m asking, lol.

    1st choice for each game is in {}
Sonic 1 – Starlight and {Labyrinth} (didn’t expect that did ya?)
    Sonic 2 – {Hill Top}, Oil Ocean, Mystic Cave
CD – Quartz Quadrant (If you try, you can do anything!)
    Sonic 3 – {Carnival Night} and Ice Cap
& Knux – {Lava Reef + Hidden Palace}, Death Egg, and Sky Sanctuary (mostly for a remix :P)
    Knuckles Chaotix 😀 – {Amazing Arena}, Botanic Base
3D Blast – Diamond Dust (with Saturn’s music)
Sonic R – “Super Sonic Racing”
    Adventure – Speed Highway and {Twinkle Park}
Adventure 2 – {Metal Harbor}, Radical Highway, and Final Rush
Heroes – Casino Park, Frog Forest, {Mystic Mansion}, and Final Fortress (I love Heroes)
Shadow the hedgehog – {Circus Park}, Mad Matrix, Lava Shelter
Sonic ’06 – have not played
Unleashed – have not played, but Spagonia has awesome music, and Eggmanland finally happened (plus it’s now notorious), so bring that on
    Colors – Planet Wisp and {Aquarium Park}
    Advance – Ice Mountain
Advance 2 – haven’t played, but I love stylized levels, especially with a music theme (looks at Rayman and Ristar), so Music Plant all the way.
    Advance 3 – N/A
    Rush – Dead Line
    Rush Adventure – {Sky Babylon}, Pirates’ Island

Special Stages: Sonic 2, Sonic 3, CD, Chaotix, Heroes

Such a long list of games, and I’m not even bringing in GameGear or spin-offs like chronicles or rivals.

Everyone just HATES Sonic CD I’ve noticed… Especially SEGA, it’s like they want to forget about it. Though I’ll admit Knuckles Chaotix is the true orphaned child.

So does no one else think COLLISION CHAOS would be fantastic in Sonic Generations? A planet floating directly above you, while exploring a futuristic abandoned carnival island in a massive lake surrounded by mountains…

Wacky Workbench. A massive warehouse with the most powerful, electric bounce pads known to the Sonic franchise. Electrical wirings of doom, and track sliders!

Stardust Speedway. A whimsical city themed by instruments. Not to mention you get to race Metal Sonic!

Wacky Workbench, Stardust Speedway, or Collision Chaos should make the cut. They’re unusual in comparison to the Sonic games EVERYONE repeats. The ones we KNOW for sure are going to be in Generations

In fact, I sometimes wonder why people would want two similar levels anyway. Pick the best level of it’s type or something unusual altogether!

Seriously, SEGA isn’t going to include anything from that masterpiece of a game if we fans don’t talk about it. SONIC CD needs support! Don’t let it die like Knuckles Chaotix.
