Casino Street Act 2 Changes Revealed

A new video of Casino Street Act 2 in Sonic 4 surfaced today as an exclusive for SEGA Online. The changes featured paint the game–or at least this new layout–in a very different light than the material that’s been revealed for the game so far. Take a look!

In addition to a brand new layout and a clean look at how the new card gimmick plays a part in the level, Act 2 of Casino Street sports a brand new, far catchier tune and gives us a good listen to the new World Map and Super Sonic jingles. It seems the delay of the game was for a good reason after all; had it continued on this path, it’s a pretty good bet that complaints of a lack of original content in the game could been alleviated entirely. I’m pretty impressed by what I see!

With original ideas and positive changes like this, it’s possible–maybe even likely–that Episode 2 will offer a radically different experience than its predecessor. Good stuff. Right on, SEGA.

See, now this is the kind of “gimmick” that I’m not only totally fine with–I think it really adds to the whole “casinoness.” Kinda like Casinopolis’ pinball machines.

Did I mention also how much more incredibly pumped I am for this game now that I saw the console version?!?!?!?! I just hope they fixed the gargantuanly-flawed no-momentum jumping. Shit’s ridiculous.

They haven’t. You can see examples of it in this video.

I’ve said it all over the place now, that new Super Sonic music is pretty slick.

eh, i don’t like it much. sonic 2 and 3’s super sonic music is really cool and catchy. sonic 4’s music….. just kinda seems slow and gay. But everyone has their own opinion right?

Pro tip: this level is the key to getting the 99-lives achievement, as it likely only takes about five runs through the stage to reach 99. =3

Love the look of the level, love the look of Super Sonic, and really like the new music. If they were going to make a Super Sonic theme, though, you’d think they’d learn from one of the few things the classics did wrong and make it *longer,* though.

They did learn from the classics though. Well, more specifically from Sonic 3&K. The music is not the same as the invincibility music. That is a huge gripe of mine from that game.

I wouldn’t say they learned from the classics–I’d say it’s more like that’s another thing they changed based on “feedback.” I remember a lot of people mentioning that they’d rather Super Sonic have his own theme, after the leaks came out.

Problem is that his super sonic music right now sounds shitty, would have been best to keep it as the invincible tune.

I don’t what anyone says, I love the card gimmicks.

Looking good. The only thing I would complain about (and I’ll admit, I feel bad complaining about anything at this point), is the music seems really… something. I’m just not digging it so much, particularly the Super Sonic tune. Then again, I’m one of those people who actually *loved* the guitar riffs in Sonic Adventure 😛

I think the main problem with the music is that it all uses the same synth sounds. When the Super Sonic music came on, I couldn’t even tell that it was different music at first. None of it (except Splash Hill) is that catchy either, it sort of sounds like it’s struggling for a melody, but I could get to like it more if it used more varied instruments. I do appreciate the effort they went to in making a new Super Sonic theme though rather than using the Invincibility jingle.

Its an okay re imagining of Casino Night… But cosmetically this game is horrible. Sonic Adventure Sonic is horrible and so is the music… It’s maddeningly bad actually. I really wish they would find a better composer.

      I hope your joking.

        Most certainly not.

What’s wrong with modern Sonic? Green eyes and shoe buckles have no effect on gameplay, so does it really matter? And I think the music is quite good.

I don’t think Sonic’s design himself has anything to do with why the game’s so crappy… The problem is too much rehashing of things already done..
There isn’t a single original stage in the game.

In other news, IGN gave it an 8/10.

I watched this with a huge smile on my face. Wednesday can’t come fast enough!

I don’t care what the haters say, I am buying this tomorrow as it is fucking awesome. Period.
Music is a bit lame though, but I can play Pearl Jam while playing it so it is okay. The sole reason for buying this is for the Sega screen though.

Well, i bought the stupid iphone version. Trrble idea. Now I need to get the console version to play the actual version… because the iphone edition sucked SO BAD. ugh.

    • Reply

Yeah it’s a shame that the iphone version didn’t get the changes that the console got. They got the “exclusive” piece of crap levels.

I rather wish people would stop using Super Sonic for videos. It’s harder to tell how challenging something is when they’re in God Mode.

I liked the part where Sonic walked at a 90 degree angle.

This act looks pretty good. I hope Episode 2 will do more things like this, and not like the things seen on Splash Hill. Good platforming sections, good new gimmicks, not so many “just run” parts, and good Super Sonic gameplay.

Got the WiiWare version today. The game is great. the physics aren’t the same, but it’s a good game. the feel of these physics isn’t bad, but there is room for improvement. anyway. the game is great. go download it.

    • Reply

Yeah, maybe someday the physics will be as good as they were 17 years ago.

  • Reply

I like the new Supersonic jingle ok

  • Reply

YES! I have a Wii, so I got it today! The physics were slightly different, but there’s plenty of platforming to go around. Go download it now, or go buy a Wii today and buy it now.

Gimmick or not, I thick the playing card mechanic is actually pretty cool. The super sonic music and special stage music don’t really do it for me, but overall the game is pretty damn good from what I’ve played so far.

  • Reply

Bullshit. nothing new. all ideas are taken from sonic 2 and 3. bored.

  • Reply

While I stand by my original opinion that this shouldn’t be called Sonic 4 on the grounds of being a whole lot of rehashing, the card gimmick is a good gimmick. However, making lives one of the prizes was silly.
