Sonic Hacking Contest Announces 2021 Dates

The 30th anniversary of Sonic the Hedgehog is upon us. Among the celebration of three decades of the blue blur comes the annual Sonic Hacking Contest. This year the contest has revealed the deadlines for entries as well as the date for the contest week which you can see below.

CONTEST DEADLINE – End of Sunday 5th September
UPDATES DEADLINE – End of Sunday 12th September
EXPO DEADLINE – End of Sunday 26th September
CONTEST WEEK – Monday 11th to Sunday 17th October

This year includes a change to the judging process including additional judges separated between the three categories, Retro (For hacks based on vintage Sonic titles), 3D (For mods based on 3D titles and 2DPC which includes mods for 2D titles such as Sonic Mania including the RSDK decompilation projects.

More Hacks, Mania Mods, Forces Mods and Procrastination in the Sonic Hacking Contest 2018


After the success of the Sonic Hacking Contest’s 15th anniversary last year the team is retaining changes made to the rules to strengthen quality control for the Sonic Hacking Contest 2018.
This year the contest will be accepting hacks and mods for Sonic Mania and Sonic Forces for trophy eligibilityLast year these entries were denied trophies due to the short time available for development of mods and tools for these titles. Now these entries will be able to match the same levels of acceptance of other ROM hacks and mods for games such as Sonic the Hedgehog 2 on Game Gear, Sonic GenerationsSonic Lost World and more.
The contest week is set for Monday through Sunday, 26th of November to the 2nd of December. Sonic Hacking Contest 2017 Results


After a turnaround from last year’s showing, the Sonic Hacking Contest 2017 draws to a close with the winners of this year’s showing for trophies rewarded by both Hacking Contest judges and the community. The contest celebrated big this year for it’s 15th anniversary with a brand new website, a public showing at this year’s Fan Jam and featured a game industry participant, Jon Burton of Traveller’s Tales, with Sonic 3D Blast Director’s Cut. There’s plenty to be excited for this year’s showing of ROM hacks and mods for Sonic RSonic Heroes, Sonic Adventure DX, Sonic Mania and Sonic Lost World. First Look At Some Of Sonic Generations’ Achievements

Achievements. The little things that pop up with a nice little sound effect that let you know you may or may not have done something really cool in a game and are awarded with Gamerscore or a Trophy. They’re also notorious for leaking some of the story elements of a game just from descriptions alone, causing some headaches for developers when the lists leak out a wee bit early.

It goes without saying that the 360 and PS3 versions of Generations were going to be packing these in some form, giving teasing glimpses at what challenges Sega is chucking at its players. Thanks to Xbox360Achievements, we now have a small peek at some of these and a surprise in that most of the achievements are completely hidden from viewing.

Well, almost completely. Above are the icons for the 27 secret achievements the game is packing, giving little glimpses to certain currently unrevealed bosses and stages. It even packs a small teaser or two regarding the status of two fan-favorite super powered golden hedgehogs.

While those will remain mysterious for now, we do have a small list, found below, of some of the more basic achievements players will be able to challenge.
