Monday Links: That Game With The Smashing Edition

screen-8

Chances are that if you played some video games this past weekend, that you were playing Super Smash Bros. for 3DS. And if you did, chances are that you noticed that Sonic’s taunt is not nearly as fun to use as it used to be. No longer does Sonic annoy other played by saying “You’re too slow!” or “C’mon, step it up!”, instead he just says “Sonic Speed!” or “C’mon!”. Sadly this isn’t nearly as satisfying to use.

So it’s a good thing that Shulk from Xenoblade Chronicles is there his incredibly British voice. He’ll shout “I’m really feeling it!” or “Now it’s Shulk time!” when taunting, which really fills in the gap Sonic’s lack of satisfying voice lines left. He can also say “This is the Monado’s power!”, but I don’t think that’s quite as satisfying to use as his other two taunts. Also, one of Shulks alternate costumes is him wearing nothing but his undies. Basically my point is: everyone should be maining Shulk instead of Sonic.

Oh right, this article is supposed to have links in it. They’re all after the jump cause oh god there are so many. Continue Reading

PAX Prime ’14 Preview: Super Smash Bros. Wii U and 3DS

screen-1
While Penny Arcade Expo allowed the general public to play Sonic Boom, Hatsune Miku Project Diva F 2nd and Alien Isolation, along with Bayonetta 2 showcased by Nintendo, very little was new to those looking for new information, which included the updated Sonic Boom demo which unfortunately did not make it to the event. This left very little for new SEGA news for fans to pick apart. That is until you factor in Sonic’s involvement in the upcoming release of Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and 3DS. Nintendo was showing off both versions for the general public to play at PAX. With the new installment coming out, there are a few changes that are in place that people can expect to enhance the gameplay, but for what was shown off so far is guaranteed more Smash Bros. to go around.

Those who have always wanted to pit some blue guy against some red guy against some blue anthropomorphic animal will finally be able to do so in the new Super Smash Bros game for Wii U and 3DS, as Nintendo confirmed that Sonic will be playable on the latest Nintendo Direct. The trailer above shows that he’ll retain his moves and taunts from Super Smash Bros Brawl and that there will also be a stage based on Sonic Lost World. Now they just need to confirm Crash Bandicoot and we’ll have the best video game mascot fighter ever.

You can also see some new screenshots (including a screen of Sonic in the 3DS version) and promo art after the jump. Continue Reading
