Monday Links: Schrodinger’s Edition

Schrodingerian box

Nobody knows if Monday Links is alive or not. Sometimes is just kinda pops up again, while at other times it just kinda seems to have died into obscurity. Some wonder if Monday Links was ever truly alive for the past year or so, as it only sometimes kinda popped up and then disappeared again for who knows how long. Others just don’t care cause really why would you you probably normally don’t even look at the front page and just go straight to the wiki or forums you jerk. >:(

Anyway, these Monday Links articles usually takes quite a bit of time to make so I’m gonna trim them up a bit from now on. From now on it’ll focus more on Sonic and less on SEGA in general. If you want to see the latest SEGA news and cool SEGA features, you should go visit SEGAbits. Those guys do a pretty damn good job covering all things SEGA and really I’m just wasting time linking all the stuff they put up there when you can just visit their site.

Also I’ll probably use more Space Dandy gifs.

Bayonetta 2 Coming Exclusively to Wii U

Nintendo announced at their press conference earlier today that Bayonetta 2 will be coming exclusively for the Wii U. Surprisingly the game will not be published by SEGA, but by Nintendo. SEGA will instead act as an advisor on the project. It’s also the company that owns the franchise, so it’s a bit hard to not put their logo on the game.

The director of the first game, Hideki Kamiya, will only be a supervisor for this sequel. This is because he is already busy directing another upcoming game by Platinum published by Nintendo, The Wonderful 101. Instead, the game will be directed by Yusuke Hashimoto, who was the producer of the original Bayonetta.

Monday Links: Return of the Links Edition

A busy work schedule and lack of news anywhere killed the links for two weeks.  While the former is still kicking my ass, the latter… well, you saw that trailer, right?  I believe that’s news.  Even if it’s late on a Monday!

Sonic Retro News

  • Get the ins-and-outs of SEGA’s port of Sonic 1 to the iPod with evihamwizard’s thread.  Download data to find out how the iPod processes the game differently than the Genesis. [Sonic 1 iPod Thread]
  • A long time ago, drx ported Sonic 1 to the 32x.  MarkeyJester resurrects it with an update.  All the PWN channels are there, but there are no sprites. [Sonic 32x Thread]
  • Late last month, somebody uncovered beta and E3 versions of Sonic 2006.  Yeah, it’s an abomination, but our interest of things pre-release knows no bounds. [Sonic 06 E3 Build Thread]
  • If you go into our forums to post about Sonic Generations, please please please for the love of Rotor the big gay walrus will you please read the thread rules.  If you break them, you will be suspended for a week.  No exceptions.  Over a dozen people couldn’t read last week and got axed. [Sonic Generations Megathread]
  • People got too excited and stupid in the thread, so we decided to send a couple funny messages to curtail people’s insane posting.  Things exploded and a sexy chimney sweep stopped on by. [Page 16 OH MY GAW-AW-AW-AWDboooom] [My Favorite Things]

Sonic/SEGA News

  • Dem mainstream guyz cover the big Sonic Generations trailer release from last week, only to note that there’s really nothing to talk about. I like MTV again. [MTV]
  • We like Platinum Games.  They make not suck games in a country where games have been suck lately.  Here’s why the relationship between SEGA and Platinum should continue for years to come. [SEGAbits]
  • The soundtracks for Sonic Adventure and Sonic Adventure 2 are slated for re-release this year for Sonic’s 20th.  Surely, you have these songs already.  I’ll be surprised if you don’t. [SEGA Addicts]
  • SEGA became the first company to receive an “M” rating for a Kinect title with Rise of Nightmares.[Geek]
  • Spiral Knights, a free-to-play, MMO dungeon crawler from SEGA has been a silent hit with gamers across the world.  It’s such an adorable li’l game. [Nerd Reactor]
  • Monster World IV is finally coming to the western world on all your downloadable services.  No word on the North American Wii VC release. [SegaFans]

Monday Links: Pizza and French Fries Edition

We’re already 7 days into February.  Some big news has to be coming down the pipe soon, right?  The links are sweatin’, I tells ya!

Sonic Retro News

  • We’ve already discussed the Sonic 4 JP prototype, but member Trunks found a complete list if you want to see everything that was changed (hint: not that much; thanks for the delay!). [JP Prototype]
  • Hard-drive crashes are one of the top reasons fangames go bye-bye (second to “IRL things” and “getting bored”), but Oldbie and Father of SAGE BlazeHedgehog managed to get the code back to one of his projects, a 2D version of Sonic 06.  Go play it! [Sonic 2K6 2D]
  • A quick hack from the mini-project thread: FM Drums in Sonic 1. [Random Hack/Mini-Project Thread]

Sonic/SEGA News

  • The Sweet Mountain: Act 2 Guide hits the SEGA Blogs. [SEGA Blogs]
  • Platinum Games (YAY!) and SEGA’s next project is revealed, “Anarchy Reigns.” [Terminal Gamer]
  • SEGA Rally is hitting the net in a PSN/XBLA release.  GAME OVER YEEEEAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH… [mmomfg]
  • SEGA West President, Mike Hayes, is confident that the PSP2 will do well.  I’m confident that the game that SEGA pushes out the door to get into the console’s launch window will suck, but will sell well due to the limited library of games.  It’s their most favorite thing to do. [CVG]
  • SEGA’s Halo-wannabe, The Condizzle, is headed to the 3DS.  Early impressions are good (so were early impressions of the Wii build, but hey, who’s keeping score?). [411mania]
  • Arkansas reminisces on the Dreamcast and wonders why it failed.  Reading video game articles in newspapers makes me laugh.  They’re so… simple. [First Arkansas News]
  • Michael Phelps: Olympic champion, world-record holder and Sonic fan. [USAToday]

Monday Links: Yule Love These Links Edition

See that pun?  Yeah, I’m sorry.

Sonic Retro News

  • Tech Member Techokami has created a tool that rips level maps for the Rush games, including Sonic Colors for the DS.  Watch how my amazing template is proven correct.  Seriously, these level designs are super boring.  [Sonic Rush Level Maps]
  • Techokami was on a roll last week, I guess.  He uncovered some unused sound files while he was hacking Sonic Colors for the Wii.  We’ll post them if and when they are released.  [Colours Hacking]
  • doc eggfan’s Sonic 2 LD is entering Chemical Plant.  [Sonic 2 LD]

Sonic/SEGA News

  • SEGA is dropping prices again with their Mega Holiday Sale!  After prices were lowered permanently, these sale prices are ridiculous, so hit these deals up.  Until the sales pay us to take the games, though, we’re not touching that Sonic Adventure port.  So terrible.  [SEGA Blogs]
  • Platinum Games, the only developer that SEGA has that’s any good, is sticking around.  [Xbox Addict]
  • Iizuka blames all of his problems on something besides himself once more.  This time, on America.  Remember Shadow the Hedgehog?  Yeah, America’s fault.  Yeah.  [The Sonic Stadium]
