Sonic Jump Fever Released Today

sjf_icon

Sonic Jump Fever has released today for both iOS and Android platforms today. Unlike the previous Sonic Jump game, its a free-to-play endless jumper that also lets you boost stats of your characters and use items and uncover Chao to increase your score by either playing the game or paying for micro transactions.
There has been no word if the original Sonic Jump will see any future updates, however the game largely plays similarly to the previous Jump game with the introduction to Fever mode where your character shoots up for a brief period of time, collecting rings. Level themes rotate daily and has the usual trappings of a freemium title, including playtime that is limited until your energy “recharges” over time, watching free ads or spending red rings.
I’m a little disappointed that the level progression from the last game is absent, and the new features don’t add that much, though the original game is still not free on Android. For those who haven’t played a Sonic Jump game before, its a decent place to start. Albeit you don’t even start as Sonic until you collect character tokens to unlock him along with the others, probably because each character has different attributes. (You start off with Tails, if you were wondering.) Also for people hoping to see a triumphant return to the Chao Garden, the Chao are additional helper items that will disappear if you don’t use them often enough until you earn their loyalty by using them in the main game. This isn’t quite the Chao Garden app we’ve been waiting for.
Its still largely an arcade game, which is ideal for quick play. Why not give it a try and tell us what you think in the comments? You can also check out E3 impressions by Shigs from SEGAbits here.

Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing Arrives for Android

nexusae0_unnamed4

SEGA is slowly getting around to that ever lasting wishlist of ports for its mobile game line up for Android, with the mobile rendition of Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing finally making use of your favorite play on words such as “Crossing the finish line,” “Taking the checkered flag,” “Successfully left the pitstop area with repairs and improvements,” and more.

A simpler way to put it is the game is finally out on the Google Play store today for $1.99 which is based off of the iPhone version, which in turn is based on the Nintendo DS version of the game which supports multiplayer for up to four players local and online. Never mind that its not based on the more recent Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed. Still, its a decent Mario Kart clone with Google+ support and a freemium pay model (Yay.) for Android which joins the several dozen other racers that just hapen to be on the Google Play market with no fanfare such as the sequel to Konami Krazy Racers, RE-Volt, and Snowboard KidsSeriously, how does word even get out there?

Sonic Dash is still slated for later this year.

Have an Extensive Look at Sonic 1 iOS/Android’s Debug Features

Watch live video from vidyaretro on TwitchTV

If you’ve heard of the recent rumblings of the debug mode for the latest Sonic 1 port, you may not be aware of some of it’s hidden features that some of you die hard Sonic fans will get a kick out of. Rolling balls, goggles, animal buddies, unfinished editor features and more await you in this port, and we’ve got a video of almost two hours worth of content.

You have a number of ways for trying out the debug mode yourself. First start a “No Save” game and choose a character. If you have a controller plugged in you can use the traditional method of entering the cheat codes (Up, Down, Left, Right, Hold A + Start) or on the touch screen, after selecting. Otherwise, on the touch screen, tap the letters S-E-G-A in that order and listen for a ring chime. Then hold two fingers on the bottom of the touch screen. When the title screen appears, slide both fingers to the top of the screen to enter the level select.

Here you can enter the sound test for some additional cheats.

04, 01, 02, 06 – Obtain all emeralds

01, 09, 09, 01, 00, 06, 02, 03 – Debug mode.

To activate debug mode tap the GUI in the top left corner of the screen.
