Third Nintendo-Exclusive Sonic Game Releasing This Year (Update: Or Not)

UPDATE: Turns out that someone at Nintendo Germany screwed up. The executive editor of IGN just tweeted that he re-confirmed with SEGA that the third mystery title won’t release in 2013. Guess we’ll have to make due with only two new Sonic games on Nintendo platforms this year, unless you count the 3DS version of Lost World as a seperate game. Sorry for the confusion folks.

It was only a couple of weeks ago when Nintendo announced that they made an exclusive partnership deal with SEGA for three brand new Sonic games exclusive to Nintendo platforms. The first two of these games being Mario and Sonic at the 2014 Winter Olympic Games and the recently revealed Sonic Lost World, both bound to be released later this year. Of course this leaves one mystery game yet to be announced.

Turns out we may not have to wait that long to know what it is. According to Sonic Stadium, Nintendo Germany spilled today in a press release that all three exclusives will be released this year. That sure is a lot of Sonic games for Nintendo haters to be pissed about in a single year. Of course this also means we probably won’t have to wait that long to know what this incredibly mysterious and secret game is. E3 is just around the corner, so it wouldn’t be surprising at all if it’d be announced there.

    Except, Nintendo aren’t at E3.

They are. They’re just not doing a big expensive press conference, instead they’re holding a Nintendo Directs which showcase new Wii U and 3DS games. They will also still be on the showfloor with playable demos.

Because they don’t want to have cheerleaders, a bbq, a parade, and fireworks show to announce the new Mario.

      Because they’re smart.

Was considering making a topic about this in the forums when Sonic Stadium put this new up, but I figured it would be locked as there are no further details other than it’s coming. We’ve already got a Mario & Sonic and what appears to be the next main Sonic title. That doesn’t leave a whole lot except for perhaps a touched-up Sonic 4 Episode I & II or a Mario and Sonic platforming crossover. I think the former is more likely, as Lost World would be completely overshadowed by a proper team-up game not involving the Olympics.

Why not Sonic 4 Episode III?

Finishing an episodic game on a console that has only the first, counting WiiWare’s Sonic 4.1, is beyond douchey, especially for Sega.

Having it all released this year also means we won’t have to wait much until Sonic is free from Nintendo’s hands and back to proper multi-system releases. I’m feeling better now.

      Please, cry more.

This isn’t the end. There will be more Nintendo exclusives, just wait.

Just get a Nintendo Console!!!! Simple as that!

So, I’ve got a question. Did you complain at all when some Sonic titles were not available for Nintendo’s consoles, i.e. they were stuck in Microsoft’s and Sony’s hands?

No? You might be a worthless entitled console fanboy. I recommend committing yourself to the closest mental institution ASAP.

Whatever, Ashram. I’m still glad these titles are coming out as fast as possible.
And the way you say it, sounds like SEGA couldn’t have pulled out Generations by themselves like they did. A multi-system release.
And I say it again: Multi-system releases.
Wii U, PS4, XboxOne and computers… I don’t get it, why did my comment tick you off?

Please, don’t tell me you already choose a side in this console war.

Could this be a Sonic 4 compilation?

I for myself am glad about the partnership only because I won’t need to buy multiple consoles anymore (I’m really disappointed on the Xbox One and I hate Sony) anyway getting a 3DS next week.

      What’s the problem with Sony?
I can understand hating the Xbox One, but still. They made the PS1 and 2, two of the greatest consoles of all time.
I’m not a Sony fanboy (I want to get a Wii U, but I want to stick with PS4 because I don’t want to get the short end of the stick with 50% of all the games released like the Wii did when it came to multi-platform games), but there really is no reason to hate the Playstation.

    Sonic Adventure 3

I would love to see that. But I don’t see that happening.

It already happened, unfortunately it’s known as “Sonic 06”.

It’d be funny if it was a Sega All Stars vs Nintendo game. It’d also be extremely awesome too.

SEGA has made it clear this is just for three games that are all releasing this year, some of you are really setting yourselves up to be super pissed when the Generations to this years Colors comes out on PS4/Xbone only. Nintendo is probably playing up this deal because their holiday Wii U lineup is going to be weaker than anyone suspects.

Well that is definitely good to hear. I just sure hope that it’ll be a good game. 😛

Is there a way to see the announcement live on the internet? I always just hear afterward what they announce but I never have seen it live or gone to one.

Well… I can’t actually “go” to one. I’m not permitted to.

If it’s “Sonic Riders U”, this partnership has been ruined.

*E3 2013* We at SEGA have some very important news for you guys! We have partnered with Sonic Team Jr, to bring their award winning project to Wii U. Now introducing, Sonic Robo Blast U!

I have a feeling this will only be Sonic 1 3D.

They have a party game, and a brand new mainline Sonic title. The only logical answer for the 3rd game is it’s a port.

is it possible that we will finally get a mario and sonic platformer?…Nah

I knew they wouldnt release the third game this year. That seems a bit to quick to release three new games. I can actualy afford it NOW!!

I have a feeling the third game is the new Smash Bros.
