Sonic 1 Hits the Top 10 on Android and iOS

Less than a week ago, Sonic 1 received a Taxman/Stealth makeover for mobile platforms. The updated port has already cracked the Top 10 Paid Apps list in the US for both Google Play and the iOS App Store at #2 and #8, respectively. As we covered earlier, there are a ton of bonus features that more than warrant its $2.99 price tag. We encourage you to purchase the app, which you can find in the links below. After the jump you will also find some screenshots showcasing some of the bonus features (slight spoilers).

Again put it on Amazon and I’ll buy it since the Kindle doesn’t have Google Play or Itunes. We feel left out 🙁

There’s a solution! You can play it on your PC with a tool called BlueStacks. http://www.bluestacks.com/.

      @Skyler

Thanks for suggesting BlueStacks. Unfortunately, I just tried it and it’s too laggy on my computer. Sonic 1 plays too slow, which sucks for this kind of game.

seconded, can we have this on the amazon store?

i cant imagine how many downloads sonic megamix would get if it became available on the market lol.

Sonic Dash is doing almost as good as Youtube at the #21 spot (of free apps)and Youtube Official app at #20. (Not to mention Sonic Dash scores 4.5 stars while Youtube has 2.5)and considering that Sonic Dash is a newer app…

Yeah, Sonic is doin’ swell on smartphones.

Why is this Smartphone-exclusive!? I want to play it with buttons, dammit! They should at the very least release a Steam version like they did with the Sonic CD port!

Pretty much both iOS and Android has pretty decent game controller support. When I got my MOGA in the mail for my Android, it’s worked pretty well, and its what I used for the stream.

They should put this on other platforms besides Google Play and iOS. 3DS perhaps, at least we would get to chose which Sonic 1 to play.

They’re making a 3DS version of Sonic 1 with 3D and such, maybe it will be based off the Taxman version. It’s possible, but I feel like they’re just going to package the old Sonic ROM in a Virtual Console style and hack in some 3D, like the rest of the 3D Classics games probably are. Either way I’d buy it whenever I get a 3DS.

The most of fans wants Stealth’s and Taxman’s Sonic 1 on PC Steam , XBLA , PSN and on Nintendo eShop on Wii U as Virtual Console Game .

I think one of the Stealth Sonic and Taxman should be on PSN, XBLA and PC Steam, because supply and demand of the application for Android and iOS is correct.

Because of the recent Knuckles save corruption bug, the app has gotten a little bit of a bad rap. Don’t worry, Chris and Taxman, it’s not your fault.

Thanks, Knuckles. You ruined the best app ever.

    A couple of things:
First and foremost, it is still mind-blowingly awesome to me that now TWO of the Retro Community are contracting with SEGA, and that their love of and dedication to these classics is paying off!
Second, between this and Sonic CD, I REALLY hope this means that similar remasters of Sonic 2 and 3K (a la Sonic 3 Complete) become a reality.

Fireninjastar you should mean that Christian “Taxman , Timmit” Whitehead and Stealth don’t fix Knuckles while the player is playing on them .

I had no idea Taxman and TimmiT were the same person. What an amazing discovery.

    This is a great port…
BUT… why do the star bumpers act so differently to the original? It makes the bonus stages horrible.
