Sonic Dash to Release at Midnight, Also Have Some Gameplay Footage

Turns out Pocket Gamer France was right about Sonic Dash releasing on Thursday. Hardlight said on Twitter (before removing the tweets) that the game will be released at midnight for $1.99/£1.49. Unless you live in New Zealand, then the game is already out for you.

Touch Gameplay has recorded some gameplay footage, which can be viewed above. It shows that you’ll be able to unlock Tails, Knuckles and Amy as playable characters and that it is indeed a Temple Run-style game. Though instead of having to tilt the device to move, you swipe with your finger left and right to let Sonic do a quick step. Graphically it looks pretty good, it seems to be using the Sonic Generations models for Sonic and some of the enemies. Also, microtransactions, because that’s a thing you can earn money with on iOS.

Seaside Hill, AKA GHZ clone from a bad game.
Sega, this is all people think of the stage. Please stop featuring it in every single game like it’s a fucking icon of Sonic because it really isn’t. (Forced, at best)

Sorry to boil there, but man. Heroes’ stages keep being treated like ‘stock Sonic cliche’, it’d be nice for games to put more effort into original levels.

They do overuse Seaside Hill/Ocean Palace, yes.

I for one want to see more Egg Fleet. Especially with that music too.

      >all people think of the stage.

Not all people think of it, just all you think of it. It’s essentially Green Hill with higher quality textures and different music, and more of a beach level if you add the beach areas + Ocean Palace. It IS an icon of Sonic because it’s just a 3D version of Green Hill, sans Generations’ interpritation (where SSH becomes Ocean Palace).

Why are you so mad over a Goddamn stage…

That looks pretty cool! Though Sonic looks weird doing tricks, and especially when he comes off a spring and kinda… glides? That’s weird…

I wonder what the Extreme Gear is doing in that shore section, though… Maybe like the Hover Board in Subway Surfers?

Judging from the footage, it looks a lot more like Subway Surfers than Temple Run, though it does have a level design similar to that of Temple Run 2. And unlike many Endless Running games, you can actually attack enemies in this gme. This might just be the type of game.

Wow- he’s running slower than my mum drives.

Now go look at how amy flaps her fucking arms around in this game. I puked.

Sega, why don’t you re-release Sonic Heroes if you love Seaside Hill so much? Oh yeah, because the game stank. I don’t mind THIS game (works like Day stages, but slower), but they REALLY need new levels instead of rehashing Green Hill’s tileset.

They actually DID re-release the PS2 version of Sonic Heroes on PSN.

You’d hope an Android port is in the works, seeing as how iOS is losing its marketshare percentage. If it gets Sega money to fund some real games, so much the better.

I’m loving the remixed theme of Seaside Hill.

    Looks quite nice.
    Quite like the remix.

Yep. Android has about 68% control of the market while iOS has about 19%. Who the heck doesn’t see the striking difference here?! Oh wait, tis’ no one other than good ol’ sega.

I think the reason that it’s coming to iOS first might be because it’s easier to test the game out on iOS. There are a lot of devices that run Android, while iOS is limited to iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad devices. Android may have a better market share, but it’s harder to develop for.

Also if anyone played Subway Surfer (which is one of the best games on the Smartphone market btw) you know this game is gonna be addicting as hell.

Although this is just an iPhone game, this is just a waste.

Firstly, it’s just a Temple Run ripoff. It’s pretty much the Sonic version of Temple Run, having just additional things that are Sonic-style.

Secondly, Seaside Hill is being over exaggerated. Why don’t they just call it Green Hill Zone? C’mon. Seaside Hill was pretty much the Sonic Heroes version of Green Hill Zone.

Why is Sonic Heroes getting so much love, anyway? It was an ok game, but why is this stage being exaggerated so much? They should’ve done a more original stage for this game or at least had a few choices or something.

Well, I’m happy it’s here. I think temple run 2 was pretty disappointing and this looks way better. Also, who really cares about what stage they use? At least we get a really nice Seaside Hill theme. I bet you would’ve complained if they used Green Hill or Splash Hill, anyway.

No, we would have said “Well, at least it isn’t Seaside Hill lol”.

I just watched it and I’m liking it, the remix if fine too, looking forward to the game, SEGA better make an Android version!

    “Microtransactions”

    Why, SEGA, why?!

I’m one of the dozen or so people that just wants this on Windows Phone. Sega hasn’t completely ignored the platform, but they haven’t exactly been great with it, either. At least we got Sonic CD.

Looks kinda boring. The Seaside Hill remix is pretty neat though.

So it’s like Sonic and the secret rings but with better controls?

    • Reply

No. In Secret Rings you could stop and walk backward.
      And you could customize Sonic.
And the music and graphics were awesome.
And there were missions and menacing bosses.

So do I. But it doesn’t feel as solid.

First, Sonic does a Doodle Jump.
Now, he does a Temple Run.
    Next… Angry Birds?
