Two months ago, we posted some very promising videos from a triad of gifted Retroites working to import Sonic Unleashed‘s stages into the PC version of Sonic Generations, because despite Sega’s apparent new-found love for all things computer, Unleashed never got the chance to pop up. And those videos? They were nothing short of impressive work.
The trio–Dario FF, Twilightzoney, and Chimera–are happy to show you the fruits of their labor since then as Sonic zips around locales like Mazuri, Empire City, Shamar, and the original Spagonia to name a few. The team not only managed to get collisions working on the stages, they’ve been able to successfully import breakable objects and even the Global Illumination Ambiance lighting effects of the original stages so that they look like their original selves.
Oh, and a much-requested golden streak of light makes his in-stage presence felt as well.
Check out the gallery for more photos and the trailer below to watch their efforts in motion. Of course, from the looks of things, the team is only getting warmed up with Unleashed levels and have set their sights to other areas…

I doubt my PC has the legs to run Sonic Generations
Would it be possible to port over the changes to say the 360 versions ? (Glitched/Jtagged of course)

You need to try the demo to see if your PC can run it. That's part of why the demo exists!

I just don’t understand why sega doesn’t seem to have any plans for DLC levels in Sonic Generations. This game SCREAMS bucketloads of extra content, and I would gladly pay $5 a level for superbly crafted stuff. Unfortunately for them, I’m about to pay $0 for a bunch of superbly crafted stuff.

Im in full support of this. I have the PC Sonic Gens… and Personally… I’d love to see a Carnival Night Zone for the PC game if they would like to do this. I really wanted to see that zone in the game.

Night time stages are being worked on to accommodate Classic Sonic, but they require more editing and are taking longer for the three to do. Right now, they're working on the "simpler" parts.

These guys are doing a great job. I loved playing through Sonic Unleashed on PS3, one of the platinum trophies I’m personally proud of. This version minus the painful werehog sections is going to make Unleashed a joy to play through again and with 60 fps to boot. Joy!

For the response on generations dlc.
Remember it wasn’t untill months and months after unleashed was released till they released dlc.
So more likley it will be july when more content comes out

Amazing work. Nice to see them porting the Colors stages too, but I hope they finish porting the Unleashed stages first and release the mod. I found Colors’ levels to be extremely boring, especially compared with Unleashed’s – they were too short, didn’t have enough 3D parts (heck, the only 3D areas in all of Starlight Carnival were half of the first act and the beginning of another act), and didn’t have enough speed (though admittedly, the slow Wisp-based gameplay, which presumably won’t get ported, was one of the causes for this). I swear, if Unleashed didn’t have the boring and tedious Werehog stages, it would have been almost universally considered superior to Colors; its hedgehog stages were superior to Colors’ stages. A pity.

[...] Among video game fanbases, I’m finding the Sonic the Hedgehog fans to be among the most damaged, but determined. Sure, there is a ton of awful DeviantArt fanart and horrifying Sonic / Robotnik slash-fiction, but when you get beyond that, you find a dedicated group of fans doing some very cool things. Most recently there has been the fan remake of Sonic the Hedgehog 2 in HD. The new hotness is taking assets and levels from the console exclusive Sonic Unleashed and dropping them into Sonic Generations. [...]
Awesome!
Night Stages = Classic sonic?

Sonic Generations Somari?
Reply left on 4.14.2012 by bobbysq
Twilightzoney was the one doing the Mario stages.
Reply left on 4.12.2012 by CrashSG32
That would be everyone really. Dario imported an untextured Bomb-Omb battlefield, me Throwback Galaxy from Galaxy 2 (basically Whomp's Fortress not looking terribly old) and Zoney does as he pleases xP

… This is honestly just amazing. Can’t think of what else to say. Only thing I really want now though is classic sonic in night stages, which I’m sure is a longer process and will happen eventually. Colors level’s will be fun too.

Does this mean we can play Daytime Sonic in Werehog stages? :O
Comment left on 4.12.2012 by Darkhairwarrior
Nice idea, but could there exist versions of these for Classic Sonic? I mean with the trailer there you might as well be advertizing patches for Unleashed , not that it’s a bad thing, I will say Unleashed would be better with Sonic’s improved control but still if you’re using the same exact levels from Unleashed and leaving them untoutched by any changes then we might as well just play Unleashed, though in the defense of this mod at least we aren’t being charged for it, I’ll say that much but for the most part we might as well be playing Unleashed, it’s the very reason why Rooftop Run got changes in the actual Sonic Generations game.
Comment left on 4.13.2012 by theshredder39
Because Unleashed exists on PCs.
Classic Sonic stuff will come later once the team has a better grasp on how to work assets. A lot more modding is required to get Classic Sonic working. Patience!

What are they going to do about the night stages, hub worlds, wisps (for Colors), cutscenes and bosses.? Are they going to ignore them or convert all that code?

The problem is that Unleashed not had only 1 act. They had many acts (4-5) if DLC is counted. And must be counted because DLC levels were AWESOME.
Don’t think the rest of levels are going to be made in this fan project of “Unleashed” PC.
Comment left on 4.14.2012 by Elguarrodelacalzada
Hmmm…i think a shorter stages or DLC stages would be made as challanges or something
Comment left on 4.14.2012 by GravityLoL
OMG They’re importing Sonic Colors levels!!
!!!!!!!!!! THANK YOU SONIC RETRO FOR THE LINK!!
Comment left on 4.14.2012 by Haden
Holy ****, this is just GLORIOUS.
And I see they’re also doing Sweet Mountain. Holy f**k. HOLY F**K. What’s next – making full stages out of some of the other boss locations? (Final Rush in Generations, anyone?)
…They might even be able to make Casino Night into a proper act or 2… Who knows where the limit is with these guys?

I can’t wait until I upgrade my computer so I can run Generations, as soon as I buy it off Steam, I’m getting this mod.
I haven’t played unleashed since my ps2 stopped working, so I’m really glad this mod was made for this port.
One question though, will the light speed dash work like generations where it’s context sensitive? (I.E. only on highlighted rings) Or will it work like it did in Unleashed?
Comment left on 4.16.2012 by The Barrel
Highlighted rings only, sorry. That's just how light dash is handled, and it works too, because any other way results in Adventure-esque lightdash, which is terrible, believe me (no really; you can fly off the map with Adventure lightdash)

Holy Crap
I NEED to download this game just for unleashed stages!
P.S. can you get unleashed on pc.

So as I suspected, my laptop doesn’t run the Generations demo
So back to my question. Could this be ported to 360 (jtagged) ?
Comment left on 4.16.2012 by Ploggy
please when can i download this mods?
Comment left on 4.16.2012 by DjSora
[...] From the Sonic Generations “Unleashed” mod. Words cannot describe the awesomeness of this. Just sit back and enjoy. [...]
To follow up on my comment earlier, I’m slightly disappointed that the light speed dash is context sensitive, but from a technical standpoint I can understand why. I mean, yeah, the adventure style LS dash was glitched out like nobody’s business. And if that’s the only other option, I’ll take the Generations engine.
Oh well, it’s a slight adjustment, but I’m sure it will work fine, so’s long as the controls can respond quickly enough.
Comment left on 4.17.2012 by The Barrel
Awesome. I wish that there were mods to other Sonic game levels to put in Sonic Gen. But that’s just me.
Comment left on 4.18.2012 by Julayla
The only real annoyance I found with unleashed was the control(I WANT A HOMING ATTACK NOT A BOOST DANNGIT).The physics in generations don’t feel that different to me.
(what I really want in sonic hacking is a modified ’06,fixing the glitches, loading and kissing an animals corpse)
Comment left on 4.19.2012 by MasterEpicPerson
Now this is awesome. Sonic unleashed on PC.
Comment left on 4.20.2012 by Sonicfan244
Okay, one more question. (last one, I swear)
Do you homing attack by hitting the jump button twice, or does it work like in unleashed where it’s a separate button?
Comment left on 4.25.2012 by The Barrel
