UPDATE: Two More Sonic Game Gear Games Coming To 3DS Virtual Console

[UPDATE: It was originally reported that Sonic Spinball was the other game announced. This has been corrected after finding the appropriate ratings document.]

For those with a 3DS who do not wish to lug around a Game Gear with a mini-nuclear power plant strapped to your back to power the thing, Sonic Triple Trouble is set to release for U.S. 3DS owners on Mar. 15, leading a charge of other Game Gear titles such as Shinobi and Dragon Crystal.

However, the Australian Classifications Board has revealed that two more Game Gear era Sonic titles are headed to the 3DS Virtual Console in the form of Sonic Labyrinth and Sonic Blast. Labyrinth features Sonic losing his speed thanks to Dr. Robotnik, so he must roll around mazes in ball form. Sonic Blast, also known as “G-Sonic” and one of the last games to be released for the Game Gear, tries to emulate the 3D look Sonic featured in Sonic 3D Blast (hence Sonic Blast) and includes the ability to also play as Knuckles. Neither were well known for their great quality.

Hopefully Sonic Spinball and Tails’ Skypatrol won’t be too far behind in this selection of “sterling” titles. That way, we can focus on bringing out the likes of Sonic Chaos/Sonic & Tails or the infamous Sonic The Hedgehog 2.

    Oh boy…

    …I surely can’t wait… because it’s not like those games were terrible…

      Triple Trouble was great.

Never mind Skypatrol. How about Tails Adventures? That was Sonic’s answer to Metroid!

My only problem will be paying ~$6 a pop. C’mon now, sure, they’re Sonic games, but you can at least price them a little cheaper, like $2-3.

Huh. So Labryinth is coming to the VC, eh? Neato.

Maybe people will give it a try instead of immediately jumping to conclusions thinking that it’s a terrible ga- oh wait someone already did that

I only needed to play it on my Nuclear-Powered Game Gear years ago to reach that, my friend.

Sonic Blast isn’t that terrible IMO.

It’s still got platforming fun, and you can play as Knuckles, gliding and climbing included, I can never say no to that.

Labyrinth on the other hand… yeah… I don’t see that getting even ONE purchase.

Sonic spinball wasn’t awful, just not as good as other games. I will probably be getting it, but after the Brilliant DS game I think Shinobi is higher priority.

Whose idea was it to reintroduce the younger fans back to Sonic Labyrinth? Sonic Blast wasn’t too bad, but really? Labyrinth?  *facepalm* I think Tails’ Adventure should of been the next big Game Gear title confirmed.

I still feel like if Robotnik had time to steal Sonic’s sneakers and replace them with slow-mo shoes, he had time to lob his head off with a leftover Slicer blade.

Is it weird that Sonic kind of looks like next gen Sonic on this cover?

I don’t get why Sonic Labyrinth gets so much flack all the time. It was one of my favorite’s on the game gear, but then again almost all the Sonic (and Tails) titles on the system were fun for me to play. Also this is why I bought a 3DS game boy, nes, and game gear titles

I’m not a big fan of Sonic Labyrinth myself but then again I don’t like Sonic Spinball either, I think I’ll take Sonic Blast and Sonic Triple Trouble and wait for them to release Sonic Chaos and Sonic 1.

i don’t care what anyone says the Game Gear titles were great in my opinion especially Triple Trouble and Tails’ Adventure

Sonic Labyrinth is the only bad game of the bunch, in my opinion. The rest were great, especially, the different version of Sonic 2

Quite honestly I loved Sonic Labyrinth. The eye splattering strobe light effect for power ups hurt like hell but I loved the gameplay switchup from platforming all the time. A Sonic game to me is a game with Sonic in it. He just happens to be in a lot of platformers.

Why does no one like Sonic here?
    Almost as bad as /v/

I wasn’t aware that people have to love all Sonic games to like him. But that’s /v/ logic for you.

Very happy to see Sonic Blast announced. Yes, it’s a fairly mediocre game, but this’ll now allow me to play it on an actual system rather than through an emulator.

Calling Sonic Labyrinth the worst Sonic game ever is a bit stupid if you ask me. There’s nothing outstanding about it, and it doesn’t really scream ‘Sonic’, but it’s a perfectly playable puzzle platformer that can be enjoyable at times. There are a few Sonic games which are a barely playable mess, Labyrinth isn’t one of them.

IMO the only really bad Game Gear Sonic is Spinball. The 16 bit version is good, but the 8 bit version is barely playable with its god awful framerate. Sonic 1, Triple Trouble and Tails Adventures are outstanding, Sonic 2 and Chaos are pretty good, Tails Skypatrol is a nice little game and Mean Bean Machine benefits from the puzzle mode which was absent from the Mega Drive version.

I”d take labyrinth and blast over secret rings and black knight any day

I’ve loved sonic games ever since I was a kid when I got Sonic Advance 2, but sadly I got disinterested in them when I lost the game. I’ll take any sonic game I can get my hands on nowadays
