OXM Shows Direct-Feed Sonic 4: Episode 2 Gameplay

While we have had lots of cam recorded footage of Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 2 already, we haven’t seen any clean footage longer than 2 seconds so far. However, the Official Xbox Magazine got their hands on some for their interview with the brand manager Ken Balough, who reveals even more new details on the game. Press the image that looks like an embedded video because I can’t figure out how to actually embed it below to visit the page with the actual video:

Here Ken talks a bit more about the game’s story, like how it will have an excuse for why everything in the first episode was taken from the previous games. The upcoming Sonic Super Special #3 will also contain a small comic which explains what happens between the first and second episodes. An exclusive feature for those with both the Windows Phone 7 and Xbox 360 has also been announced. The versions will support cloud saving, so if you play the game on the WP7 and save it to the cloud you’ll be able to continue the game on the Xbox 360.

“Even though we liked Sonic 4: Episode I, some of the blue bomber’s fanbase didn’t take kindly to the modern-era modifications to the classic formula.” Did they really just call Sonic the blue bomber? That’s Megaman’s name, Sonic’s the freakin’ blue blur.

Heh. Nintendo power commented on that.
“Dodongo dislikes fools who call Sonic the blue bomber”

I bet that the zone from the classic series Ken told us about is the Death Egg Zone.

    Freaking awesome!

I can’t seem to find the video on that page.

looks way better than Episode 1, at least.
The wP7/Xbox save feature would probably be cooler if the game was longer.
I’m not as well versed in Sonic physics to form a solid opinion until I’ve played it myself though.

Oh wait, nevermind – helps if I disable NoScript.

    Cool stuff.

R.I.P. beard indeed. We hardly knew ye.

Yeah, definitely looks fun. I’m getting pretty stoked for this. And sounds like they’ve actually thought out a story this time. Do that more often, Sega!

Intense. Level design in Sylvania looks solid. More jumping, less running for all! Now a neat little thing that I THINK I noticed in a previous video that I hope returns is the fact that the more momentum you had after jumping the faster Sonic would spin in his Spin Attack. Didn’t affect any gameplay but it was cool to watch and made it feel speedy.

considering what I’ve seen, I think that “Death Egg Zone” returns.  I see it in the background of White Park Zone’s Boss, Metal Sonic, surrounding Little Planet. I’m not trying to spoil, I’m just guessing.

so since its avaialable for psn, does that mean that it will be playable on the psvita? if so im all for that

      Odds are… nope.

@Scyphi Agreed. But they should keep in mind that they shouldn’t take it way too far like what they did with SA2, S’06 and the list goes on..

They didn’t mention Steam/PC on the list on where they are gonna publish the game. RUNIED FOREV- just kidding, but seriously steam, please.

It will be released on Steam and other PC digital download sites, but they almost never mention it.

No-one can form an opinion until theyve played it (not that that ever seems to stop anybody!)

Hmm, looks like Sonic still uncurls when he leaves a ramp? That’s a bit annoying.
Also looks like his momentum can be cancelled and all on-screen activity halted by summoning tails for flight, etc.

It does look absolutely great though compared to episode 1, a lot more promising.

Is it really nessecery to bring back an old level? Where are the yellow springs??

There’s something that’s really ticking me off more than the uncurl…
Just look at how freaking long summoning tails to fly or double roll takes. It’s a huge delay for something we’ll likely want to try all the time.

Tell that to the guys that have trolled this game for its logo.

Returning zone: My hopes its Stardust Speedway. I mean, Little Planet, Metal Sonic, Huuuh? 😀

Sigh, here we go again. Since a few people went way overboard, now NOBODY is allowed to draw any conclusions from game footage and other materials that might make certain things perfectly clear – too bad; everyone must just be imagining everything they see and might dare to have an opinion about!

I don’t really care either way about this, but your argument is just about as stupid as the one that says anyone who can’t make their own game/wine/igloo shouldn’t judge someone else’s.

@RupeeClock Sonic doesn’t uncurl after a ramp. If you seen all of the videos already, you would know that.

    No he doesn’t.

    wow, cross-platform saving, IT BEGINS!!!!!!!!!!!

    I agree on that one.
Oh well They will get better at this.
I still don’t know why they can’t edit the level art design of the previous genisis games and.
My suggestion is GO BACK TO SPRITES. GOD dangit i miss the sprites

Guys, I don’t think the returning stage will be Death Egg or a final zone type zone. If you listen to him he says, “We’re bringing back a zone from the classic sonic trilogy blah blah blah, and THEN a final zone.” Ken mentions a final zone after the returning stage. It will really be one of the normal zones from the older games.
