Sonic CD, Sonic 4 Episode 1 And More Get Released On Steam, Generations 50% Off Until Monday

More than a month after it was released on consoles, the new version of Sonic CD has finally hit Steam today. And for a limited time only if you buy the game you will get a free Metal Sonic costume for SEGA and Three Rings’ free to play MMO, Spiral Knights. You can also get Tails’ tails by buying energy within said game, though sadly these do not give you the ability to fly. Screenshots and a video of the costumes can be seen after the jump.

Besides that, Sonic 4 Episode 1 and the Casino Night Zone DLC for Sonic Generations have been released on the service as well. The former was already spotted on the Steam registry some time ago and the latter was supposed to be released on December 26th last year, but was delayed for unknown reasons. If you haven’t gotten Generations yet, the game is now 50% off until January 23rd as a weekend deal along with all other Sonic games besides those released today with the exception of Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing, which is 75% off.

You forgot to add the point that SONIC GENERATIONS on Steam now has a Free Demo download

Yes, impartiality, etc. But I can tell you all now, for those of you looking for a Sonic fix on the cheap today, ignore Sonic 4-1 and drop the extra $5 for Sonic Generations. You’ll be paying $5 more for more content and an overall better game.

I might be doing a write up about how half-assed the port is, especially given that the game is now a year old. But it’d just be beating a dead horse.

Failing that, Sonic CD is always a good buy, especially at $5. Plus, it helps feed Taxman. Support starving community developers!

Ugh. A fucking year for S4-1 to get a PC port. I like that they are acknowledging our existence now, but this is still sad. Hopefully, we won’t end up waiting that long for S4-2 to come up.

I’m getting Sonic CD 2011 for sure! If it’s able to work on my computer, then I might want to redo my LP of Sonic CD.

Anybody know if any of these games have controller support? I.e. is the Logitech USB controller I use with all my emulators likely to work with these?

Sonic just isn’t Sonic without a controller IMO.

Coming from someone who has played most versions (93 US SCD version, 93 MCD JP version, 96 PC US version, Gems version) of Sonic CD already, I can honestly say the Steam version is BY FAR the single best version I’ve played. It’s A LOT more responsive (keep getting killed because I subconsciously try to compensate for now non-existant control lag), includes both soundtracks (which is good, because I prefer the American one) and the highest quality FMVs to date scaled to your monitor’s res as well as a few other goodies. The frame rate is also through the roof on this version no matter how you set up.

Sounds like you need to check your computer John, because it runs FLAWLESSLY for me. I have a pretty average gaming computer, though it’s about due for an upgrade on the videocard.

Hey. There is a solution for the “soniccd.exe stopped working” issue? It happens when I run the game.
