Join Us For A Sonic Marathon Generations In The Making

[UPDATE: 2006 is purposely missing from here. We have special plans for that one along with other titles… stay tuned!]

We here at Sonic Retro strive to bring you all the best in Sonic series and technical research through our gigantic wiki and humor through some of the strange discussions that go down in the forums (green eyes, physics, etc.) But all of this requires some pretty hefty “spondooli” to keep running.

So, to help along our efforts to have the rocket fuel to keep this big mother hubbard on its way to Mars on a collision course like a satellite out of control, we’re going to be holding a massive 12-hour gaming marathon of all things Sonic we’re lovingly calling “The Sonic Retro Generational Marathon” to ring in the release of Sonic’s big 20th Anniversary game.

Beginning Oct. 30 at 12pm EDT, forum member The Shad will be playing a plethora of Sonic games for your amusement. However, the games he plays are determined based on which “Generation” they’re located in. Here’s a small sample of what I mean:

GENESIS ERA: Sonic 1, Sonic CD, Sonic 2, Sonic 3

“DREAMCAST” ERA: Sonic Adventure, Sonic Adventure 2, and Sonic Heroes

MODERN ERA: Sonic Unleashed, Sonic Colors

With plenty more secret eras afterward. The Shad will be advancing through eras as more donations are raised. Along with that, beginning at donations of $5 USD, donators can also include tasks The Shad has to perform on air, such as singing along to certain songs or no use of the spin dash/homing attack, on a dollar-per-minute basis. Higher donations can request more complex things, in the event of needing to set things up. Donators will also be enrolled in our little program that top donors will receive special prizes in the mail, because we really do love you all that much.

Plenty of other Sonic Retro staffers will be on hand as The Shad trudges on through the best–and worst–the Sonic series has to offer. What sort of devious Eras have we concocted for The Shad to endure once the Modern Era passes? Tune in Sunday to find out!

And of course, if you can’t make it to the marathon, you can always drop off a little cash on the side on our donation page. Every little bit helps!

2006 is in, rest assured. It just has its own special group.

Not playing Sonic 2006? That’d be pretty entertaining.

It’s there. We gave it its own special era because there are some especially devious plans for that one.

Hmmm. I’d love to hear a rendition of My Sweet Passion. Might get in on this!

Oh…this is gonna be fun. >:D

Hmm. Perhaps I shall donate some – thing within the art of sadism. SB’s third act with no rings/short – cut? Oh, yes. Playing Altitude Limit with no boost/tricks aside from when absolutely necessary (As within, the only way to get through – out a certain part: If there was another that you missed, then you shall njust have to restart/die – restart.)? Manipulate Dead Line’s boss so that the button – hitting lasts for 10 minutea? Ohohohoho… If I do donate, I shall be sure to have a lot of FUN with it…

If I wasn’t poor I’d be an enormous dick with my donations. Donate $60 and force him to play Big’s story for an hour since everyone has an irrational hatred of him, all while singing “Lazy Days Livin’ in Paradise” on infinite loop while not being allowed to look at the lyrics.

Hey, Big is cool. Leave him alone, PUNK.

Always enjoy a good marathon! This should be fun.

    sonic 2, without jumping?

    • Reply

      Unless necessary, naturally.

  • Reply

I think he should play EVERY sonic game, including gamegear, spin offs, tiger games systems, knuckles choatix, sonic r… you know, all off them.

    • Reply

Doable, but I don’t know if the Tiger games are possible without having to hunt them all down. And that’d take much more than 24 hours, let alone 12.

    sonic 2 without standing still

20$ to finish Sonic 4 without any Homing Attack and 30$ for him to finish Sonic Unleashed without any boost.

    Gotta prepare my money.

Another one, and perhaps the only piece of fun you shall ever take from ’06 and all it’s blasted shoddiness… Run around every Field trying to find as MANY GLITCHES AS YOU CAN within 30 minutes. READY. READY. GO!

      Fire the Gun Drive everywhere!

I’d be more inclined to watch if you actually played sonic ’06 from start to finish.

To give you guys the pain it took for Sega to release that game.

    • Reply

Trust me, 2006 IS in the cards for this marathon. The Shad already played through the whole game once. A second time is going to be fun.

  • Reply

    I’ve done both, where’s my $50?

  • Reply

damn I was excited for Sonic 2006, I wonder what those special plans are, its place should be in between the Adventure (Dreamcast) era and the Unleashed (Modern) era!

    • Reply

It’s scheduled for this marathon, don’t worry.

  • Reply

Shadow, Secret Ring and Black Knight need more love (and ham).

Anyways, the idea is to donate money to the site for requests. So help people; cause some mischief. I’m in.

  • Reply

I think you all hate me.

  • Reply

I just like to put various people within painful situations. It’s no personal vendetta, I assure you. Besides, not sure if I should donate or not yet… Hmm…

You do take English pounds, don’t you?

Well, I’ll consider.I’ll find some exchange rates and save, and if I have enough by two days before, I’ll donate. Unfortunately, things are tight right now, but I’ll see what I can do. It would probably be worth it. How much will it take for him to do the button – mashing thing again?

    • Reply

It’d be $5 USD for five minutes as a starting price for actions. Convert to your preferred currency as desired.

  • Reply

So… It would take 10 dollars for him to do it for 10 minutes?

    • Reply

Yes. He’s pretty much a cheap hooker. It goes without saying that going higher means making him do something much more difficult or frustrating.

  • Reply

Excellent. Well, as long as PayPal opens it’s servers towards me within the time (It hasn’t let me within all day.), you should be seeing my small part soon. I hope you enjoy your tendonitis, Shad my dear boy.

  • Reply

And if it doesn’t, I’ll probably do it any – ways. You have done a lot for Sonic as a whole. You deserve at least some small giving.

  • Reply

As within, do it AFTER the event has ended.

  • Reply

    I will gladly, sir!

  • Reply

Hmm. I prefer my victims to be screaming within protest, but fine. ^-^.

  • Reply

Wait, where is the stream for the Sonic marathon? I can’t seem to find it. :\
