New Sonic Generations Video: New Levels, Plus a Certain Fox

Who doesn’t like finding out more information about Sonic Generations? Let’s be honest, each time Sega decides to upload a new trailer, everyone on the Internet goes crazy. There’s a reason it takes an hour to load a single page on here when they show up. And this video isn’t going to be any different.

Let that soak in.

Now that we’ve processed that, what have we seen? Well, more of Chemical Plant, sure. But we’ve seen that. We know the deal. Seaside Hill and Rooftop Run? That’s new (aside from that one second “tease” of the latter), and they’re showcased as well, for both Modern and Classic Sonic. Not going to lie, the Rooftop Run section gives me a bit of deja-vu, but yeah, what can you expect? The game did come out in 2008. But Seaside Hill…it certainly doesn’t look like a retread of Green Hill, even if that’s what the level originally was back in Sonic Heroes.

But the money shot? Oh man, that money shot. Well, I guess there are two, but the first is just a reminder that Miles “Tails” Prower is there…and look at that double tail power. Or should that be four? I don’t know if the universe can handle that much foxboy action. And the amount of mint candy eaten at once? But I digress…the real money shot comes at the end, where we get to see another classic boss rendered once more, staring at us in a way that can only send chills down your spine, reminding you of the first time a Sonic the Hedgehog game grabbed you and said “you’re not getting out of here so easily.”

Yes, I’m talking about the Death Egg boss from Sonic the Hedgehog 2. Who knows what insanity will follow this time? I know I don’t. But if they’re basing it on the Sonic 2 arena…they better reuse some Chemical Plant tiles.

I will buy this game, and I WILL complete it! No person in Sheffield or certain pie eating blubber-arse is going to stop me!

As ironical as author is, he just came up with a idea which would be interesting. Would making classicy physics be easier if game used 3d equivalent of tiles?

    • Reply

3D equivalent of tiles? Like Minecraft?

      • Reply

Yes and no, because Minecraft has basically only filled cubes and empty ones. I know they have some props, but what about cube with a slope inside?

This trailer made me laugh out loud in nostialgious joy as my girlfriend’s family gave me strange looks. I do have my headphones on after all.
I can’t wait for this, there may be a lot of naysaying and claims of it simply being a graphical rehash and cash in on nostalgia, but when it looks ( and plays, from my experience of the ps3 demo) this damn awesome, i really don’t care.

Seaside Hill doesn’t bother me anymore, now that I’ve seen this. Like many, I was worried that it was gonna be a bit of a Green Hill clone, but… Wow. As if emphasising on the ancient ruins theme wasn’t enough. I am AMAZED. More of Ocean Palace and I can’t help but feel an Adabatian touch, don’t you?
With Spagonia being based off Europe, I find it pretty amusing/a little hilarious that Sega and Sonic Team is adding a hot air balloon festival there. XD Nice touch.
Sonic 2’s Death Egg Robo… Can’t say I’m not disappointed, but Sega, you did already pay tribute to him in Sonic 4: Episode 1, didn’t ya? ^^; Still, that doesn’t change my outlook on the upcoming title: it’s still gorgeous! It’s gonna be so freaking sweet, I’m getting cavities! I’m guessing Silver Sonic might be joining him too. Please let there be rings…

Now, of all stages yet to be revealed, PLEASE SHOW THE WORLD CRISIS CITY (Sonic ’06) IN ALL OF ITS APOCALYPTIC GLORY!
Kinda funny that what can be considered the worst game in the franchise has one of the most amazing levels in the Generations lineup. XD Didn’t like the game that much, but I LOVED that stage. The music, the monsters, the dangerous atmosphere, the whole feel that you’re in a constant rush to get the heck out of there as fast as you can before something terrible happens to you; it was glorious! And did I say music? Also, it’s possibly the only other level Sonic starts out on a makeshift board too (in Generations, I know of Sonic 3’s Ice Cap).

    On another note, some 3DS footage soon would be nice. ^^;

It’s funny, I would’ve liked Crisis City more if not for the running section at the end.
Fuck the running sections. You lose all control if you jump, whereas you have complete control if you jump in the rest of the game. I died so many times on Crisis City due to that one part. Oh, and Iblis? THANKS FOR TELLING US HOW TO FIGHT IT SEGA oh that’s right I had to get a game over before and lose a few more lives before I finally got enough messages to figure it out. Fuck Crisis City and Iblis :V

Try to take SG’s physics and gameplay style in mind for this one. I’m sure that fire tornado will return but it won’t be uncontrolable. Unleashed onwards don’t follow the exact same principle as ’06 when it comes to that: its own high speed sections were much easier to control and were more fun, so I doubt that part oughta be chaos to you unless you’re terrible.
Besides, yes, ’06 happened, but it’s a thing of the past now. Nobody cares.

in fact i saw a screenshot that showed that the part of hydrpcity where you go underwater and hold on to those poles in a rushing water current is now in seaside hill

  • Reply

    Wooooooow!!! Amazing!

  • Reply

Are you sure it’s Seaside Hill? I mean Classic Sonic’s part looked like it had the rolling rock things from Ocean Palace. Perhaps Classic Sonic plays there instead while Modern Sonic plays Seaside Hill? I doubt it but I’m seriously hoping it’s Ocean Palace instead….because I like the BGM better haha

    • Reply

Well it seems to me they’re gonna mash both Seaside Hill and Ocean Palace into a single zone, using parts of each.

      • Reply

        That’d be pretty neat.

    *FANGASM* OOUUUUHHH!!!!!!!

What’s that music that plays in the background? I’ve heard it somewhere before…

that’s not to say that I actually like it though. It’s pretty “filler” sounding.

    • Reply

It’s apparently some My Chemical Romance song. It still sounds like generic butt techno to me. Why not just throw some game music in there for once?

      • Reply

        It’s not MCR you dumbass.

      • Reply

        Kele – “Tenderoni”

      • Reply

…It’s “Tenderoni,” and I don’t know if it’d be classed as butt techno… Btw, that song wasn’t made by My Chemical Romance 😛

        • Reply

          XD Fail.

      • Reply

        It’s Tenderoni by Kele

      • Reply

I think you’re getting the other video’s song mixed up, The other one is Na Na Na by My Chemical Romance, and This is an instrumental Tenderoni by Kele

      • Reply

Yes, god forbid I don’t know two horrible songs because I like not listening to power tools being used as musical instruments unless Trent Reznor has a hand in it.
Either way, thanks for the overwhelming correction.

    • Reply

It played in the original Generations trailer where they run through Green Hill. If you still have the demo, you can jsut watch it there.

    • Reply

This music was also the same one that we heard on the 2nd trailer of generations showing Green Hill for the first time, right?

At exactly 0:21 anyone else see the huge thing int he sky? http://img695.imageshack.us/img695/3821/generea.png I took a screen shot

Looks like the airship from Sonic 3!!

  • Reply

Wow… Spagonia looks a whole lot better than I’d think. A WHOLE lot better! As does Seaside Hill; it looks lovely! (though isn’t the sky a little dark?)
Now all we need is to see Speed Highway, Crisis City, Sky Sanctuary, and Planet Wisp. I have no doubt they’ll look amazing!
Though honestly… THE SONIC 2 BOSS?! C’MON, WHY NOT GREAT EGGMAN ROBO?! >_> (They BETTER make the music good… I liked GER’s a whole lot more… Plus, SSZ -> Death Egg made so much sense, so wtf :c)

  • Reply

Seaside Hill/Ocean Palace looks awesome. I’m glad it won’t be a Green Hill knock off. And Spagonia looked good even though it doesn’t look all that different.

BTW am I the only one hoping that in Classic Sonic’s Crisis City, we get some level design references to Lava Reef Zone?

    • Reply

That’d be appropriate. 😀 Hell, throw in a little bit of its music while they’re at it!

  • Reply

OH! Seeing the robot at the end puts it all in perspective. When I saw “Death Egg” as a boss, I thought they were talking about the large, rotund super fortress of evil we all hold so dear. Ha ha ha, yes. Death Egg from Sonic 2 makes much more sense.

    I WANT EVEN MORE

This game will be the best thing ever created.

  • Reply

I must say, I am loving seaside hill. Spagonia or whatever looks…exactly the same bar a few balloons. yay? And ffs why do we always get this generic techno tripe in our trailers when the japs get actual game music? Can’t wait to hear the classic seaside hill

  • Reply

I was thinking seaside hill was a stupid choice. they shouldve picked mystic mansion or something. BUT, now with this footage I regret saying that. It looks amazing. I am glad rooftop run isnt just copied and pasted from unleashed, they added new things like ballons etc. Chemical Plant looks freaking epic. Two Tails or is it four Tails?? Damn I’m confused. Oh and the egg emperor at the end……EPIC!!!

    • Reply

That’s the EggRobo (sorry if that’s the wrong name), the final boss from Sonic the Hedgehog 2

Although I AM curious as to who the boss for the Heroes stage would be

      • Reply

You would think it would be metal sonic but he is already used for stardust speedway, BUT we dont know anything about MODERN metal sonic

        • Reply

Since it’s Seaside Hill representing Heroes, I wouldn’t be surprised if they use Egg Hawk

    • Reply

I’m pretty sure that’s the egg robo from Sonic 2

      • Reply

Many people told me his name is egg emperor but, it still looks kick ass!

        • Reply

Egg Emperor is from Heroes pal.

        • Reply

Sorry I got his name wrong. Don’t have a freaking panic attack LOL.

  • Reply

I can not believe how much I’m letting myself get hyped again. I love Sonic that much apparently. Honestly a level like Seaside Hill is a little bit unusual. They arleady had a “Hill” zone picked so I would have gone with a unique stage like Egg Fleet.

0:18 looks awesome. I can’t wait for it’s release already.

LOL Sega made Classic Tails brighter than Modern xD

Isn’t he supposed to be darker llollol

I beat the Death Egg Boss with one try on a regular basis now. He doesn’t scare me.

  • Reply

Yes, i don’t like rooftop run even if i’m italian.
Yes, i don’t like seaside hill because it’s a ghz clone, and aquatic ruin was the most tedious of the classic waterish zones, and somewhat similar to ghz too.
Yes, i would prefer s3&k giant egg robot over the s2 one. Yeah classic fans are hard to please, sure, even if rolling is broken and there’s still no sign of an s3 zone. But this…i can’t stop to be excited after this trailer! This game is seriously goin to contend the title of best sonic game ever with the likes of 3&k and cd. Now please add 1 to the rolling! xD

I’m guessing this will be like one of those games where both Sonics will fix everything, and it’ll pull a Sonic 2006 where noone involved will even remember it all happened.

  • Reply

Part of me says, “Oh brother, here we go again…” while the other says, “I’m up for ANOTHER rematch! Bring it!” All and all, come November, I’ll be hooked on this game, nothing else.

  • Reply

Hm… Since classic City Escape has Endless Mine mixed in, maybe classic Rooftop Run will have Balloon Park, it’d fit because of the balloons everywhere AND it’d be fantastic!

    • Reply

because of you i made this list 1. speed highway will have a piece of starlight zone 2. seaside hill will have a piece of hydrocity zone 3. crisis city will have a piece of lava reef 4. planet wisp will have a piece of scrap brain

    • Reply

@Spencer – What game is Balloon Park from? Ive never heard of it. :0

      • Reply

@Ricardo – Balloon Park is from Sonic 3, it’s a multiplayer stage along with Azure Lake, Chrome Gadget, and Desert Palace.

@tepig – I feel like you should swap scrap brain and starlight. Crisis City with Lava Reef and Hydrocity with Seaside Hill would be amazing though, especially if they added some Ocean Palace bits in there.

I don’t think that’s death egg zone boss. I think that’s one of the robots from Sky Sanctuary.

      Look at the arms.

I noticed that Tails hasn’t really changed visually over the years. I also remember the first time I faced that boss. That was one of the scariest moments in my, then, short life.

    • Reply

When I was young, me and my friend were both playing Sonic 2. When we reached Metropolis Zone, my friend said “fuck this” (not really) and he left. I continued on and I reached Death Egg Zone. When I came face to face with this boss I was about to shit my pants. After I cleaned my ass, I beat him and I walked out of the living room with pride flowing through me.

Seaside hill has been over-used in the past few years….the level has become boring…can’t even say nostalgic, honestly…they should add casino park or rail canyon…or even mystic mansion (with a mystic cave remix worked in, of course)

Aside from that, spagonia looks really sexy……again….im not toooo interested in crisis city, but i must say that im BEYOND hyped for speed highway and planet wisp.

For me seaside hill is the only downer in the game…..and tails had better follow you on every freakin stage…should be a start menu option…all the characters should! Second controller activated also!!

    • Reply

I’d quite like to see Casino Park in SG too, rather than Casino Night though and not Seaside Hill. And I agree with you with the Tails/2nd controller idea. Maybe, as DLC, there could be a 2-player versus mode, ala Sonic 2, with different stages from the games. Make it happen, Sega!

  • Reply

Wow, Sega has really got my attention. If only they would use a damn remix of the original City Escape for Modern Ci…. I’m getting off topic. Anywho, really nice to see Seaside Hill revamped to look damn sexy and all, seems a little dark, but oh well. And it seems the Death Egg is back. Oh shit.

  • Reply

I’m glad to see Seaside Hill is being revamped, the underwater sections look interesting especially the one with classic Sonic holding a vertical bar, I must say great move SEGA, you proved me wrong by making more variety with the levels than I thought, who knows maybe Crisis City will have lava after all!

and WTF? Giant Eggman from Sonic 2 is back? yet again?

    • Reply

Maybe it went by too fast for me to see, but where did you see a water section in Seaside Hill?
