City Escape and Spagonia Confirmed for Sonic Generations on Consoles

Try to be excited, even though we all saw it coming.

To celebrate E3, Sega dumped out a new trailer showing the two Sonics running through the streets of San Franci–, Station Squ–, Central City, or whatever they’re calling it now, from Sonic Adventure 2 and causing whatever havoc two cracked out on speed Hedgehogs do to civilization.

Classic Sonic takes a more Genesis style approach, the level playing like some cross up of Chemical Plant and Spring Yard. His sequences include riding a skateboard, in a tribute to the streetboard opening of the original, and being chased through the street by a rampaging mac truck.

Modern Sonic, however, takes a more traditional through the city, which has been touched up even further and looks simple gorgeous. His boost is in tow, but he begins boarding down the hills and hitting ramps for tricks. The GUN robots are in tow but with no signs of Chaos Drives pumping out of them, chao fans can sit down and cry softly.

After some posing and tag lines, we get a quick teaser of Modern Sonic airborne in the skies of the crowded Spagonia from Sonic Unleashed, confirming one more jaunt through the bustling cityscape.

Right now the most we have is this low quality video from Sega’s own website, which apparently can only be viewed by American IPs for now. We’ll update this article once we get a better video. Well, that was fast! Thanks, Vandelay!

Excited? Disappointed? No word if these levels will be on hand on the demos at Sonic Boom, though I wouldn’t expect them to be. I’ll be live on the floor with Scarred Sun tomorrow to bring you all the calamity and chaos that occurs when you couple 2,000 Sonic fans under one roof.

Oh yes I and ?00,000 others wanted City Escape.
Didn’t think Rooftop Run was going to happen for this game and didn’t want it here anyway but oh well.

After watching that trailer i’ve gotta admit I’ve never been so excited about a game in my entire life… I think SEGA Has finally created a masterpiece.

I speedrun that City Escape level weekly if not Daily. So to see it in HD and re-imagined is just so emotional.
They tried for soooo long to bring the spirit of sonic back.
And my god have they succeeded now!
If I’m this excited after seeing just two level desings I think ima actually cry of happiness when I play this game.
    I’m nearly crying now xD

Whats with the music choice? Why not just play the level music?

And the music for some levels is mixed up. I saw an interview fom the show floor, green hill act 1 has starlight zone music, and act 2 has chemical plant, for some reason…

Dissapointment? Oh god! After watching the trailer, I only know I want this game now!!

I think Sega shouldn’t reveal or confirm more levels in the game, like they did with Unleashed and Episode 4. There were too much spoilers.
What I want are surprises once I play with the game.

As gorgeous as that looks, I dunno if classic Sonic would play so well in a newer environment, despite the changes they made for him. At worst, he could play like he did in Sonic 4, but if it works, I hope 3DS gets a port of this level.

I wanna say, perhaps Radical Highway could work on the 3DS version.
For the 3DS version you really want levels wtih awesome depth to them. Perhaps Starlight Carnival would be perfect then.

Oh that would be amazing even though Sonic didn’t even play on that stage. Why not speed highway with the original Sonic Adventure Texture rather than the crappy DX textures? (I hate the fact that DX replaced the coolest textures in SA with boring everyday life styled textures.)

        • Reply

          Haha, really?
I’ve never played either so I don’t know, obviously.
Fact is, though, I would if I had myself a Dreamcast or whatever the game’s on (too lazy to name ’em since they also became downloadable)

putting in spagonia looks pointless since for the most part it’ll be exactly the same

    • Reply

true but it would be awesome to here a classic remix of the song and see how classic sonic runs through

    • Reply

Isn’t that practically what all of the levels would be, at least in the case for those that came from the Genesis-era games and those that Modern Sonic came from?

      • Reply

Perhaps. I think they should focus more on older stages. I prefer experiencing old levels in HD graphics in an old and new way rather than recent levels with the same graphics in an old way and the same way it was 2 or 3 years ago, but that’s just me. I’m sure many fans will be happy to see werehog-free unleashed re-imaginations

        • Reply

I will say this, if they were to try focusing on the older generations then it would be imbalanced for stage variety in the game as in reality it should be an equal number of pre-Adventure stages and post-Adventure stages available in the game.

Meh. Wish this game was just all the classic stages revisited, could careless for these stage announcements.

I’d like to see just an hd remake of a classic (can you imagine the death egg in 1080p?)
But so far the “classic” city escape looks very good!

True, since when were My Chemical Romance and Sonic related each other? Maybe they are in the game OST. 😛

    I’m psyched, to be honest.

sorry if this is already confirmed, I haven’t been keeping up with E3 cause, ya know. But please please PLEASE don’t give Classic Sonic a homing attack, please SEGA?

    I’m sorry

It was confirmed in the very first interview with Patrick Riley. Classic Sonic is based completely off of his Sonic 2 iteration, the only change being the quick-spindash (press and hold “X”) being added in along with the traditional form.

I saw the name of this wonderful piece of news and literally yelled out “YEEEEAH!”…my girlfriend looked at me like I was nuts, lol, but that’s besides the point. I’m now even more excited for this game! I still have SA2B and play it on my Wii every so often, but I’ve missed City Escape, or rather that “amazing & new” feeling I get when I run through it. Gah, I cannot wait to play this new City Escape, and as for Rooftop Run, Act 1 was my second favorite level from Unleashed(Apotos FTW). Does anyone know if it will be ALL of Spagonia, or just and Act or 2?

Im now even MORE depressed now that its not on Wii then i was freakin 5 mins ago!! >.< (PS. I sense a little MCR in the trailer. 😉 NA NA NA!)

With the Wii U now announced, perhaps that could be added to the list later? But then again the Wii U is set for a 2012 release.

      • Reply

Didn’t stop them from releasing Sonic Adventure 2, the 10th Anniversary game later on the Gamecube.

        • Reply

          OMG… theres hope! YES! ^^

        • Reply

That’s absolutely true, we do have hope after all!
          Thanks for that reminder.
But I guess that’s the thing with lots of games of the type, they get released on later consoles at least a year after the original release. The only reason to justify the fact that it might not come to the Wii U is that this game is clearly an ANNIVERSARY GAME and they want to get it out before that happens.
…wait. Release date. I guess it makes sense…
          (actually waiting for one)
Someone reply when it’s announced or something.

    HOLY CRAP YESSSSSS
I’m so freaking excited. All I don’t get is why they picked Na Na Na for the music in this. If you’re going to pick a My Chemical Romance song, why would you pick one of their worst and most overplayed?

  • Reply

Dammit, I wanted to hear the remix but it is just a trailer. I’m actually glad I live in the west, I can watch gameplay videos from guys in the east when it comes out earlier for them. Either way this looks slick, but for some reason not as vibrant as I thought it might be. Still very impressive.

at least no one now can say SEGA can’t go retro, i finally got to see how the snowboarding will work in Unleashed/Colors style, my only complaint is modern Sonic doesn’t have item boxes anymore!

  • Reply

I hope they put in final chase from SA2

  • Reply

i just realized in the Trailer at 0:24 classic Sonic grabs the skateboard from a monitor just like Sonic Triple Trouble 😀 Game gear reference anyone?

  • Reply

In all honesty, “Modern” Sonic’s got this one.

    • Reply

They really crafted this stage to work for Modern, I think. Classic Sonic goes well in this, but City Escape was made for Sonic Adventure 2, which had 3D gameplay. Modern Sonic had this MADE for him.

  • Reply

This looks awesome. I hope they have extra downloadable levels like Unleashed had.

  • Reply

Could care less about Spagonia seriously. Just give me Chemical Plant and this is a first day purchase. If they want to keep putting levels in from the shitty new games, then SEGA can go to hell.

  • Reply

spagonia will most likly go under the name rooftop run
city escape looks ans is awesone in hd

  • Reply

Oh yeah…. I for the first time Sonic Spinning into a GUN Robot a Chao Drive won’t come popping out. ….. ….. ….. *turns on the Gamecube* ….. *sigh* (lol jk, I’m very excite with the similaritys between this and the original. Very, very nostalgic indeed.)

…so you want a Sonic Adventure 2 remake with just speed stages.
