Check it out, they fixed the uncurling from a ramp thing in Classic gameplay.

From what I see here, this is what I (and everyone else) wanted from Sonic 4. (Minus of course the “modern Sonic” version.)

This guy is referring to this game as if Sonic 4 never happened. I mean, what the hell is going on?

    • Reply

      What? Sonic 4?

      …Never heard of it.

    • Reply

What is this Sonic 4 you’re talking about?

    • Reply

What about Sonic 4? Why should he give a damn about or mention all those shitty fangames with bootleg sprites?

    • Reply

They made a Sonic 4? Impossible!

      • Reply

Your right, because it never happened.

        • Reply

Also, I think this man is referring to Retro Sonic Nexus or something, It’s almost like SEGA actually made Sonic 4!

    • Reply

Sonic 4?  You mean Sonic & Knuckles?  That game was confirmed not to be sonic 4, but, an extension of Sonic 3…. AGES ago.

Dunno what you’re talking about.. Certainly, there’s no official SEGA-made Sonic 4, if that is what you mean…

classic sonic will have his classic moves he says… so can I expect a insta-sheild? maybe? hopefully?
and it sounds like he says giant robotic badnik bitch in the modern playthru lol but I know he said fish.

    • Reply

The guy said it’s based off of Sonic 2, so I would expect not to see that or the elemental shields.

  • Reply

I see no uncurling that everyone was talking about.

    >:}

  • Reply

The classic stage actually looks alright. They just need to put more badniks in the stage which I’m assuming should happen as they continue to develop the game.

  • Reply

Classic Sonic looks great. Uncurling is fixed? Nice.

Modern Sonic… it really does look like an interactive cut scene. lol.
I think that a portion of the problem could be fixed if boost didn’t straight up obliterate everything in its path, as it would thinks a lot less brain-dead… but then again, running full speed into an enemy you didn’t see coming because you’re Sonic isn’t exactly fun, either.

So yeah… Modern Sonic just needs a complete retooling or removal all together. It would kind of be an insult to intelligence, at this point… if you go past this and keep Modern Sonic as is, without the physics and the platforming that requires thought and skill…

I think Sonic 4 could die and no one would care at this point. However, Dimps needs to straight rip the physics from Classic Sonic in this game. Obviously I haven’t played it, but it already looks much better and much more accurate to the classic games.

    • Reply

I doubt that Dimps ever liked source material :V

    Things to note:

    -Slightly tweaked level design/platforms
    -Lighting seems better
-New voice clips for modern that don’t sound like Roger very much
-If you listen closely at the end of the modern Sonic video, you hear a small remixed clip from the first two Sonic games.

    ^ Oh hell yes

Where does it not sound like roger?

  • Reply

Also the modern stage actually doesn’t look that bad….

  • Reply

You have to love the classic Sonic the Hedgehog theme. That has been sorely missing for years, and now that it’s back, can we all agree that the title for Sonic 1 and 2 was the best Sonic theme music? The definitive Sonic theme music? It was the second piece of music written for the game (the first being the Green Hill Zone music) yet everyone gets wrapped up in Crush 40 defining Sonic themes.

    • Reply

Actually, I think the Sonic 3 theme was the best. Sonic 1 and 2’s was okay but no where near as good as Sonic 3’s.

    • Reply

I gotta say, I don’t really like those two. They’re like, 10 seconds long. Sonic 3 and forward is where it’s at to me.

  • Reply

The classic gameplay looks more refined and fantastic.

The ‘modern’ gameplay well….  the stage at least look pretty.

  • Reply

“This cave shows an important part of the design team’s philosophy…” (Sonic falls off a rail and dies)
I’m sorry, but I laughed so hard when this happened in the modern Sonic video. That could not have been timed any better and should definitely be a clip.

Overall, not too shabby. No doubt this is the build that will be on display at Sonic Boom.

    • Reply

Not only was the timing perfect, but it’ll probably show the guys at SEGA (albeit with everyone going “THIS IS YOUR PHILOSOPHY EH?) that their handling of Sonic in modern gameplay is just retarded, especially with rails 😛

      • Reply

Totally. Rails have always sucked in my opinion. The only time I’d say they got it right was with SA2, since it wasn’t just watching Sonic ride, auto-side jumping, and randomly going faster. There was actual platforming in those old rail levels, and you could only go faster by crouching on a downward slope, not to mention you could usually jump off if you wanted while not usually have too much consequence.

i think that guy is not good at this game but who noticed he is wearing the dreamcast hoodie from an interview a while ago

    • Reply

Yeah, I laughed as well because it was utterly ridiculous.
      “…which is NOT skilled players!”

      • Reply

        Wait, scratch that
“…which is NOT to KILL PLAYERS”

  • Reply

While I think they could get rid of some of the camera zooms in classic, it looks freaking amazing. I can’t even say I totally hate the “modern” mode, though if they are going to do that, they really should just stick to 3D view for that. I can tell if this game has plenty of content to match what I am seeing here I will definitely make sure to snag it as soon as I can.

I love this! Really awesome sega, you are doing it right!

Classic Sonic Gameplay is perfect in terms of physics, edits to make it more faithful to the Sonic Genesis Games, though It might be good if they have new classic-ish levels with new level-related gimmicks and new shields. But so far, I am highly impressed by this gameplay. Tails and Knuckles making a cameo is what I want, oh and also Amy and Eggman!

Modern Sonic’s Gameplay is a mix. First, his jump is sticky, as someone already said. Needs to be fixed. Also you need less sections that are just on rails and allow a free-roam camera to explore some sections in some parts.
Not to keen on using boost to knock multiple enemies, but we got slide and spindash are alternatives. Players should have to feel satisfied by hitting robots, so definately add some moves there without breaking the ‘flow’ of gameplay (like some melee moves while running). Also funny dialogue when robots explode would be sweet.
Overall, can’t wait for the whole game to come out! ><

I like how people are saying Modern Sonic looks like shit when it’s identical to Colors.

    • Reply

Well, dunno about them, and I don’t say it’s shit either.
But I don’t see why the fuck Colors was any a greater deal than Unleashed, and keep wondering why everyone was still so assertive that it was “the good sonic game”, and should be surprised that there’s *gasp* people who don’t like the formula.

      • Reply

…as well as people that believe that the Adventure playstyle is not only still fresh and nothing close to outdated, but also superior to the Unleashed/Colors format.

        • Reply

… only it is extremely awfully performed in the few later titles…

IMO I enjpyed Unleashed more than Colo(u)rs and I think Generations looks good too

Hey, I only said I like SA1 & SA2. I never said ANYTHING about Heroes. I HATE Heroes. And ’06? That doesn’t even deserve an answer.

    >killing a badnick to reach a spring without the use of homing attack while on the upper part of the level

    *PSSSSHHH* (coffee spit)

I always wondered why they refused to do that barring some examples like Carnival Night Zone. I’m impressed that they did it now.

… Classic Sonic gameplay looks too easy. The guy was obviously demonstrating how the game was like, but he was idling far too much. I find it ridiculous, really. He was spending so much time standing still, yet he still got an “S” rank.

    … Wow.

Anyway, I just LOVE the gameplay, it’s amazing. It’s a huge change from that leak in the Spanish site we previously saw. A lot more textures, better graphics, movement, glitch fixes… It’s all looking rather handsomely well. :3

    • Reply

Well, it’s still being developed. I’m sure S Ranks will become harder to obtain once the game is out for retail.

Speaking of which, I’m a TINY bit disappointed that Classic Sonic’s stage clear theme isn’t a remix of the one from Sonic 1/2…

      • Reply

I think I heard something about them not being able to use the stage clear music from sonic 1 and 2 for legal reasons somewhere, i could be wrong though.

  • Reply

I really wanted to like Modern Sonic’s gameplay, especially after I accepted the fact that convincing SEGA to input Dreamcast Sonic is a bit farfetched.
    I can’t say I do.
It’s looks like Unleashed. Not that I’m ungrateful for what they’ve done for the rest of the game, like letting Classic Sonic visit, or glamourizing the levels, but jeez, that Modern level must have only taken 20-30 button presses (which here includes left & right) to complete. So far the only redeeming quality I associated with Modern Sonic’s gameplay is that the team realized and addressed what it is: boosting, linear adrenaline candy. I can only hope that this streak of fan-listening goes on so that they’ll use this knowledge to make the 3D game so many of us want.
Oh, and to put old and new sheilds in Classic Sonic’s levels.

    • Reply

If they were to put the S3 shields in Classic Sonic levels, then the guy would have said the gameplay was based off of Sonic 3 instead – because if that was the case he’d have to have the Insta-shield as well!
Clearly, the gameplay (as well as his statement) shows that the gameplay is Sonic 2 based, so I don’t think there’s a chance for the elemental shields to come in.

      • Reply

true i heard of someone who only lokes sonic 1 and 2 and sonic 3 is too different

  • Reply

Ofcourse both levels are easy, they’re the FIRST LEVELS…

    • Reply

I like you. No one else seems to remember that little detail when looking at these stages.
That means the later levels are going to be like Eggmanland 360/PS3 on crack, minus the werehog parts.

      • Reply

Sweet Jesus, please don’t bring up that stage. I still have nightmares. *shudder*

listen really closely at the end on the title screen (which seems to resemble sonic 2006) you can here vwhat may be the main theme

Looking into the far background of the stages…  It seems like sega took notes from The Sonic Fan game… lol.  But, we haven’t seen the other acts… maybe they’ll take place during different times of the day too… lol..
