Once again, all-star Retro Member Skyler “Make Me A Staff Member So I Can Post This Myself” King delivers on the goods. Struck by musical inspiration, Skyler has dared to ask the question, “What would happen if Sonic the Hedgehog 2‘s music sounded as I truly imagined it?” And that is how Sonic 2×4 was born. Listen to the Emerald Hill Zone as if it were really Splash Hill. Marvel at Metropolis like you were running from a wall that wanted to ruin you. Be thankful the flippers work properly in Casino Night. And most importantly, wonder what would go through the mind of Masato Nakamura if he ever heard this.

Leave a CommentMy internet usually causes issues with downloading bigger files, but I do want to hear some nice MEOWMEOWMEOW and some out of place Sonic 1 snare.

I’ll admit I only made it to Casino Night (2P) before giving up. My ears and childhood will thank me.

Sounds horrible. Now I understand why I do not like the music in Sonic 4: it’s not the music by itself what I don’t like, it’s how it is performed. Sega needs Nakamura back.

Which makes me wonder - how would a Sonic 4x2 album sound?
If it's not blatantly obvious, I mean Sonic 4 music with Sonic 2 instruments. Or maybe a Sonic 4x3. Whatever, just Sonic 4 songs with classic instruments. If Lost Labyrinth on the Master System taught us anything, it's that the music itself isn't what's so terrible - it's the instruments.

I gotta say, some of these sound decent, but everything else < original Sonic 2

Agreed. Final Boss is surprisingly non-horrific.

I’d rather want to listen to these two:

In meow mix form.
Well, some parts of it, that is.

Listening to this, the sounds are annoying like Sonic4 but its still wonderfull Sonic 2 music. You just can’t ruin it.
To ruin it you’d have to give it extra loops and slow down the music to make unfitting of a sonic game.
Also make the overall tunes off key and some notes longer than they should.
Then you’ll have something sonic 4 ish. Or maybe thats just my brain breaking when I listen to it.

I actually chuckled at Mystic Cave when the bwaaaah bwaaah bwaaaah sound came in

Hmm, interesting to hear what it “would” sound like. Personally, I like the Hidden Palace Zone arrangement…but that’s pretty much it :3

The Hidden Palace Zone arrangement is pretty awesome, because it sounds fairly normal. And the original was such a good song in the first place.

Is it wrong I really enjoyed the whole of this soundtrack…!
Great work, as always. Loved EHZ particularly.

So you all say Sonic 4 music is shit, then say you like this? please. Sonic 4 sounds are crap, so this is crap!
Comment left on 1.24.2011 by finiki
That's WHY people like it, though.

That's the point, dipshit. Making good music sound like crap with the samples. It's a novelty album.

yes and I am sure that the guy who did this just loves the Sonic 4 music, right? Agenda.
Comment left on 1.24.2011 by Woohookitty
The melodies, yes. The instruments, hell no.
Reply left on 1.24.2011 by Sky
I sampled a few of the stages.
My God, not even the boss music is safe from the shitty instrumentation. This is EAR RAPE.
Comment left on 1.25.2011 by Haru
Well, the boss music is awful with any instruments. Its just compounded when played on them. Hell, the boss music sounds like the intro to a morning children's education programming show.

Folks were making better sounding MIDI sequences than this shit, twelve years ago. So good job, I guess. Hint: there are such things as flat and sharp notes.
