Sega Rings in Sonic’s 20th Anniversary Early

Even though 2011 has only just begun, Sega has wasted no time in kicking off their celebrations for Sonic and Puyo Puyo’s 20th anniversaries with teaser websites.

While there’s very little in terms of information, Sega also released two images: one of Sonic with an item monitor and one of the official 20th Anniversary logo. A pop up on the site when clicking the logo gives information about the debut of Sonic and the fact that the brand has sold over 70,000,000 units globally since June 23, 1991.

It goes on to tease future games for the franchise in 2011, of which we know there are three more projects to be announced this year according to Allan Pritchard, executive vice president of sales and marketing at Sega of America, in a recent interview with Game Informer.

*shivers* Sonic’s mouth looks more like a vagina than a mouth.
Seriously, if SEGA was trying to make Sonic look cool, they just got him to look like some kind of pimp or a president.

I think his mouth should be more like the one on the box. :E

      I disagree on the vagina.

But agree on his looks. Dammit, why do they make turn his head upwards so often lately?

We get it, sonic has no neck and is immune to vampires. Also, he’s now taller than you. Don’t need to flaunt the fact so much.

I knew I wasn’t the only one who thought his mouth looked funny.

If modern Sonic hits the classic Sonic monitor, will all of our nightmares end?

If modern Sonic hits the classic Sonic-monitor we’ll get a game with 3D graphics, but 2D Sonic. So, Sonic The Hedgehog 4: Episode 2

Then what game would modern Sonic be in which has this classic Sonic monitor?

A really cool, amazing Sonic game, with features we’ve never seen. So, probably a fan game 😛

I like the look of the Sonic in the monitor. Just saying.

They should have put modern Sonic in the monitor so classic Sonic could destroy it, and end this monstrosity for good. :V Or you know give us an option to play as either classic or modern Sonic… but I highly doubt that’ll happen. :\ Well I just hope they deliver a better game for the anniversary. Please SEGA don’t fuck this up! Dx

I just wish the old voice actor would cone back… This new one feels out of place and wrong… And why is he so tall now? I mean look at 06!! He’s actualy taller than some people on that!! Put him in the middle of preggers sonic and modern sonic and give him the sonic cd ‘high speed’ running style and I’ll be happy: and I’m shire many others will be too!!

Wow. Twenty years already? It’s amazing how time flies, it still feels like 1999 was just yesterday.

Mm. A Classic monitor? I wonder what that means. I can’t wait to buy more awesome Sonic games.

I just hope that they make a new Puyo game and release it to the states.
    It’s well afterdue.

^ That, please. A Puyo Puyo for DLC services would be awesome at any price IMO 🙂

I’m glad that I’m not the only one that cares about SEGA actually planning something for Puyo Puyo’s 20th anniversary. Interestingly enough, it’s been the franchise they’ve given the most sequels second to Sonic himself 😛 (And it wasn’t even their game to begin with until about 2001-ish)

Well, if Msonic hits the Csonic monitor it means..”Sonic the hedgehog 1 Remake” or “Sonic the hedgehog 4 Episode 2”..

“Sonic XX” as in roman numeral 20.

Sonic 4: Episode 1, wasn’t all that bad in my opinion, infact I kinda liked it. But Sonic Colors was downright awesome, probably one of the best 3D sonic games in a long long time. But what worries me is was 2010 just a lucky year for the hedgehog? Will we end up seeing another Sonic 06′ Disaster this year? Or is the hedgehog truly back. Well, so far all I know is that Sonic 4: Episode 2 is most likely going to be revealed, and there’s some kind of mario and sonic party game….which is a bit meh in my opinion. But what’s this classic levels upgraded with 3D visuals I keep hearing about? More rehashes? Come On Sega… Sonic Colors was pretty original but as much as I would love a 3D Green Hill Zone again, Im getting a bit tired of the constant rehashing.

Sonic’s 20th Anniversery should be good. Plus last year with a better than average year (ratings wise) for Sonic, this shows us that SEGA was actually “TRYING” and was making good Sonic games. In fact if SEGA listened to the fans way more often, and actually took lessons from some of the best fan games, the Sonic series would be the most impressive series before and after the 2D, 3D switch. And voice actor wise, a good yet bad choice. Good like Tails sounds like a boy now, but bad like, Some charaters sound worse than before. And others, like Knuckles and Vector, wasn’t really a noticable change. As in, they almost sound exactly the same.
