Sonic 4 Website Updated; New Assets Revealed

Today the official Sonic the Hedgehog 4 website was updated with a hefty amount of new material. The site’s design was revamped to look more like Splash Hill Zone, the first planned level in the game, and several more assets–namely screenshots and the music for the level itself–were released to suit. In addition, the second character box in the Characters section of the website has been revealed to be none other than Dr. Eggman, alleviating any prior rumors of “Classic Sonic” being the second featured character bio.

Check out the official Sonic 4 website!

More screenshots and material after the bump.

UPDATE: Now with looping ADX version of the Splash Hill Act 1 track!

Absolutely stunning – the lineage of the game is there for all to see. Well done Sega – looks like a winner to me!

I had a feeling Eggman would be the second character if we were not to get classic Sonic which is disappointing. We ALL knew Eggman was a main character in the game so keeping that a secret on the characters section as long as Sega did is a huge letdown as it just hyped us up for nothing. I was hoping we would see Super Sonic so the fans who don’t know that he’s playable could have something to cheer about.

I was surprised when they didn’t use Classic Sonic, I had no doubt that they would, it doesn’t ruin the game, but it’s a little disappointing. I never thought that Classic Sonic would be the other character, it was obviously going to be Eggman (The Robotnik impostor!)

      Too Nostalgic about the name?
Sorry to disappoint you, but between the name given by his creator and americanized marketing localization that is canon anyway. Both character itself and his original creator deserve the character to be named that like that.

Hah, wow! The difference some decent high quality screens can make! Looks quite nice.

      I beg to differ.

Classic Sonic and hand-drawn graphics aside, I think that this game will be a great one!  Believe me, I was the first one to complain when I saw it, and I complained loudly.  But now that everything has sunken in, and I know what I’m getting, the extra information about this is really enticing!

I agree completely. When I first saw the video with gameplay of sonic 4 (the first one with the crappy running) I got a little unsteady. Then came the moon jump which made me think that the whole thing was going to be another crap fest. However, as I let things sink in a bit and with more info released such as the super sonic in levels addition and whole “after hitting eggman 3 times he starts to pull different moves” thing I think it might be good. Keyword: “MIGHT”

I hate the music, there’s not enough Zones, and the episodes should not have been done. The only reason it was done for Sonic 3 was because they were on a schedule, and didn’t meet the deadline, and didn’t want a repeat of Sonic 2, why are they splitting up Sonic 4? Some things aren’t meant to be emulated.

I wish they would have treated the game differently. They’re re-using too much stuff.

We know the names of 5 zones, and reports are already coming in that there will be at least six. If you don’t like the music that’s okay, it’s only one level.

I have a bad feeling about that target thing on the enemies…

However, I see there’s finally a “running animation” 🙂 Reminds me of the one featured in Sonic CD

Its the homing attack which i could really do without but i dont think you need to use it (hopefully)

Looks like sonic advance 4. But thats not a bad thing, I loved sonic advance 1 and 3, they were almost as good as the Genesis games in my opinion. If it is a new sonic advance game split up into 3 parts I would buy it. Also Im glad to see they fixed the running animation. And it uses the lock on move from later sonic games, I dont think it will be much of a problem if handled correctly.

I’m really liking where they’re going with this game, it looks great and the music sounds great to.

I hate the target reticules. Seriously, they’re obnoxious looking, …it looks like Virtua Cop. I don’t need shiny arrows constantly reminding me of my homing attack option. They might as well add giant flashing arrow pointing to the right to remind you which direction you’ll mainly be going in order to finish the stage.

That blue trail while Sonic’s going through the air looks obnoxious…
They could’ve at least limited that to his homing attack.

Remember that sega said that they want classic sonic for download?? But its no problem to me

Seems like a very interesting mashup of Genesis and Dreamcast game elements. I look forward to this game more and more, the anticipation is drowning me.

I stopped playing sonic games after sonic adventure1 but this looks pretty promising. The first stage’s graphics remind me of both first levels of sonic 1 and sonic cd (my favorite sonic game). I’m happy Sega’s at least trying to please sonic fans which is hard because how do you please the fans that were kids when it first came out and are now fully grown adults? I think it’s definitively a step in the right direction.

One thing I do think has been missing from the new sonic games thou is the original concept of eggman representing humans destroying the planet (or that’s pretty much how i understood it) and using the animals in his robotic creations for his own selfish desires. I guess in sonic adventure when they popped him in a human world that wouldn’t have worked so well.

Personally thou, I would have rather they made games surrounding the sonic anime adapted from sonic cd world to base their games on. It seemed so much more interesting~ *end rant here*

Pretty good! I’ve ALREADY made a fake “intro picture” of Sonic 5. It’s not real – yet.
