Forum member infinity has somehow managed to obtain a copy of Sonic the Hedgehog 4‘s soundtrack and has posted it on the forums!
My thoughts? Splash Hill Act 1 was just really shoddily done; this soundtrack is nowhere near as bad as I thought it’d be! I recommend checking out Mad Gear in particular as well as Splash Hill Acts 2 & 3. Really top notch stuff all around.
Check out the relevant forum topic!
UPDATE: Boss 1 is actually an unused track from the 16-bit Sonic 3D – so at least one track from this game dates back to 1995! See the below Youtube link for the original unused song:
An MP3 download of the above track is here.

Leave a CommentTo be perfectly honest, I didn’t think the main theme and Splash Hill Act 1 sounded amazing but were okay. But after listening to just a few tracks of the different levels, it’s obvious that this is a terrific score. Some of the better tracks are obviously later on. Even the reprises of the theme in the invincibility, etc. are pretty sweet. Good job Sega!

I don’t know what people are talking about, I liked Splash Hill 1 better than any of this stuff! It just sounds garbled and reeeeeeally synthy. Plus each act has a completely different song! I dunno, I’m liking this game less and less every-time something groundbreaking is released.

Wow. This was inevitable. Yesterday: the website leaks, today: the music leaks, tomorrow: THE GAME LEAKS. XD
It’s a very Sonic 1-like soundtrack. Glad to hear Tweaker likes it!

The website leaked? What was shown?

I thought the game already *had* leaked? =P But on a more serious note, yeah, I was kind of expecting this at some point, too, although personally I think the soundtrack lacks variety... more in the overall sound than anything. The Special Stage track (which I neither particularly like nor particularly dislike) struck me as the most unique thing in the whole list. Everything else sounds like the same sounds, 'cept with different notes.
I would say, if pressed for a definitive review, "Good tracks... forgettable soundtrack." But that's just my first impression and the real clincher will be whether or not it works in-game.

Weird, the boss theme I was going to assume was written in the vain of eggmans themes from Sonic X.

Honestly? I think that Splash Hill Act 1 is better than most of the soundtrack.

That's interesting, because I've heard the exact opposite remark from others. Just goes to show how subjective this sort of thing really is, I guess.

Totally agree, except Mad Gear act 1 pretty much kicks ass. Reminds me of something you'd hear in a Mega Man game.

I knew that I knew that music from somewhere!! MEGA props to Sega for using an old unused track. (If only they got that SCD beta intro in there somewhere…)

Boss music number 1 is terrible, no wonder it was sonic 3D blasts unofficial track. Makes eggman a circus clown. HATE the boss music

The “Music” isn’t bad, but those instruments are piss poor.

Why am I the only one who noticed and has a problem with each act having a completely different song?
Comment left on 3.29.2010 by SpeedingHedgehog
Probably not, but personally, I like that.

Does anyone else think that boss theme 1 sounds like it came from Paper Mario: the thousand year door?

sounds great. the instruments make it feel nostalgic in a way, but i cant eat up the special stage music :/

May I upload this on youtube?

I already did that, almost a year ago.
Except it was the original S3D version.

I love Mad Gear Act 3′s music, it does indeed sound like a Mega Man X game though, but I love the OST. I don’t care for the reused song though, I kind of wished they didn’t use it… I mean it was scrapped 15 years ago…

I am only speculating.
The boss music one is pretty good but nothing compared to boss 2. I am left to wonder…..
will the boss music change after 3 hits and begin to become intense just like in sonic advanced 2 (dimps made both games after all). This would be pretty intense. After all, Nintendo power magazine did confirm that the boss would start doing new things after the first three hits. Why not new music? Hopefully because boss music 2 kicks ass!

Urgh! They already removed all the tracks!!!

It’s awesome that they used an old song, but I don’t think it’s that great, I mean it’s pretty good and it does fit with the rest of 4′s music, but it doesn’t sound catchy or mean enough to me.

They should have used a remix of the Sonic 2 boss theme instead of that carnival fanfare from Sonic 3D beta they used.

Yes, I did upload this.
Coming from, well, Sega, I’m surprised they rehashed shit they never used.

Thanks for a rare thing, guys! Not bad music for Sega, but, of course, it is not a song for Sonic 3D Blast. I think this track should be amazing in Sonic CD or somewhere else.

This should be a Carnival level music in Sonic 4
